DINE AT YOUR OWN RISK‼️ Pros: They accommodated our party of 10. The food was delicious and was served in a timely manner. Our bill for 4 people was $63. CONS: The service was shockingly HORRENDOUS. I bought an horchata drink for my 12 year old daughters. Not realizing that the table was extremely wobbly and unstable; their friend got up using the table to help herself up...and the table tipped. The horchata spilled. No broken glass. We started to clean it up ourselves. But Jenny, the supervisor on staff, was visibly not happy about having to clean it up. Then, when we kindly asked for a replacement horchata drink, she absolutely refused to give us one. My husband pleaded kindly for a replacement. Her response: "Our policy is no refills. It's not our fault you spilled the drink." My husband said: "Please, the table was unstable, and it tipped. We'd like to give your restaurant a good review." She staunchedly refused. Then I kindly pleaded with her. I said: "Please, this is our first time here. The food is delicious, we would like to come back again. Please give us a replacement horchata." Again, she refused, saying: "It's not our fault your daughter spilled her drink. We don't give refills." I calmly and kindly said: "This isn't a refill, it's a replacement. It's not our fault that your table is wobbly. It was an honest accident." Jenny offered to give us a soda as replacement. I kindly said: "We bought an horchata, please provide an equivalent, my daughters don't drink soda." She was so aggravated and so annoyed. Jenny begrudgingly gave us an horchata replacement. If she could have thrown it at us, she would have. She was absolutely flaming livid. I've been to hundreds, if not thousands of restaurants in my lifetime; all over the world and all over the US. Never once have I ever been refused a replacement drink if it was accidentally spilled. Especially if the table was extremely wobbly. To the Azul owner, manager, supervisor, & staff: "Why risk and sacrifice a lifetime of business and endless referrals, for one $3 drink? Before we left the restaurant, we tried to make nice with Jenny, the supervisor. Our group of friends said goodbye & good night. We tried to thank her. One family gave her an additional $5 tip in addition to their original tip. Nope. Jenny was not having it. Jenny was extremely rude, her face was scowled, she didn't even look up to acknowledge us. Our bill was $63, plus tip. Our friends bill was $48 plus tip, plus extra $5 tip. Our other friend's bill was $62 with $15 tip. We gave them $173 worth of business plus generous tips. Jenny could not find it in her heart, based on customer service, return business and human kindness...to give 2 twelve year old little girls, a replacement horchata. We will NEVER come back. And we will NEVER recommend this place to our...
Read moreLove their vegan tacos! They have amazing salsa. Ever since they got rid of their chip and salsa bar, the chip and salsa portions they hand out with the tacos are miniscule (anout 10 chips), and servers have almost always seemed annoyed when I ask for more chips and/or salsa. It stresses me out every time. One time the server said she'd have to ask up front if we could have another small bag of chips (we only had one and there were 2 of us there). I actually started having my young son order separately just so we can each get a tiny bag of chips since, even when there are 2 of us, they only offer one if I order our food in one order.
If they are going to hold back the salsa so much and hand it out in tiny containers, maybe they could provide an option on the menu to purchase a larger salsa option in advance of the meal so customers don't have to awkwardly keep asking and servers keep bringing more by the spoonful. It's ridiculous and makes for an awkward situation.
Once again, if for some reason they really do need to hold back in this area, perhaps they could just put chips on the menu so customers can enjoy their dinner without constantly having to ask the server if they would please bring them another 10 chips and spoonful of salsa, then getting a sigh and eye roll. I'd gladly pay a few bucks more to avoid the drama; it's now become a joke every time we go there but it honestly does give me anxiety.
If Azul reads this, please reconsider your chips and salsa policy; make it consistent so customers know what they can expect, and offer an option to...
Read moreI have made a recent temporary move from the Bay Area to Sacramento Midtown. Of course, the first thing on my To-Do List was finding a good Mexican and Chinese restaurant. Easy right?? Hold up, wait a minute....not exactly. After many misses trying to find solid traditional Mexican fare, I decided to ramp it up. I asked the Spanish speaking staff at the building where I lived and all of them suggested Azul. I pressed further asking if there were any other local places to check out. Most said not really around Midtown. I've tried Azul several times and will report the food, while a bit North of traditional, Ie, fancy, has a really solid base and will be my local go-to. I have actually ventured outside Midtown to Broadway, West Sac, and East Sac and will return to Azul. An added plus are the owners and staff who are friendly, friendly to the point that if you are walking randomly down the street when they aren't even open, they remember you and wave and say hello. Portion size is really good, pricing is actually on the lower side considering they are leaning towards upscale. Their rice, which I feel is like the backbone of any Mexican food, the bread to your sandwich is pretty traditional and excellent. An added plus is their chips and red salsa. One of their red salsas are so good, I would literally drink a 16oz cup of it, if...
