People with Disabilities Beware! I was raised in St Joseph but my family moved to Ky when I was 12. My wife and I like to visit when we can. This year for my 50th Birthday we decided to return during the chalk the walk weekend. We went to Thornton's Cafe to have breakfast but we ended up leaving before we got to eat. The owner gave us a hard time at the door because I have a service dog. He was wearing his vest but she asked to know what kind of service and asked to see a service licence. Both of which are unlawful to do but we let it slide. Then when we were seated at our booth she came over and told us that our service dog had to be on the floor. I have cancer and after my first surgery I now battle seizures. My service animal is an alert dog meaning he has been trained to smell and warn me of an upcoming seizure. He can do this job from the floor but he is small and when we go out to eat he calmly sleeps resting his head on my leg. I tried to explain to the owner but she shocked my wife and I by cutting me off and saying don't raise your voice at me! The place was crowded and she made quite a scene. We decided to leave but we were both very troubled to be treated so rudely. She should be careful because the next person might sue her for...
Read moreHad breakfast here on 6.18.2025 and 6.19.2025 and was served by Jazmin on both occasions. She was an AMAZING and OUTSTANDING server and her positive and infectious enthusiasm each morning was very welcoming and inspiring. Jazmin even provided suggestions of places to explore, visit, and eat at during my travels along Lake Michigan, which I have included in this review. The food here at Thornton's is delicious and I will definitely stop here again the next time I am in Michigan. Highly recommend to anyone traveling through the area. ..... Jazmin. I want to personally thank you for your recommendations and your service! BRAVO and THANK YOU! I hope that your boss shows you this review so you can appreciate the pictures I took during my trip. I hope that you are still at Thornton's the next time I visit Michigan. All the best to you! Returned on 10.15.2025 and learned that Jazmin left during the Summer. However, I was served by Sarah and she was Spectacular!!! Thornton's is my favorite place for breakfast in St. Joseph....
Read moreUsed to love coming here with my grandma as a kid. Came here the other day with my mom for good memories and food, we arrived at 11 and left at 1230. An hour and 30 minutes of waiting for food. For context, we'd put our order in as soon as we got there. The waitress was very nice however, but told us about 40 minutes into the wait that our food had only just been put on the grill. Don't know what's going on in the kitchen, but it shouldn't be that for how few people were even there at that time. Usually, I am one to suck these things up. However, I am a type 1 diabetic, which my mother mentioned when we ordered. I usually give myself insulin for my food before I think it will arrive. If we had waited any longer I would have been too low and could've had a diabetic episode. No reason in the world that it should take that long, according to my partner who works in food service as a cook. Bad for them, they could get sued by people with disabilities like mine this way. People with...
