Blue Fugu Japanese Steakhouse — Restaurant in Saint Pete Beach

After making an 8:30 reservation we arrived to be told there would be a 15 minute wait and were instructed to wait outside. 50 minutes later we were finally seated and then waited another 30 minutes to order drinks. For a restaurant with only 6 hibatchi tables you would think it wouldn’t take 25 minutes to get our drinks but you’d be wrong. The food was mediocre at best despite the higher price than comparable restaurants. On top of that our entire table ordered waters that we never received.

After ordering our sushi it finally arrived about 15 minutes after the meal was finished. Our tickets were mixed up and we were rushed through our meal because the restaurant was supposed to close at 10, with no consideration to the fact we had to wait nearly an hour after our reservation. We considered getting up and walking out after the poor start to our meal but unfortunately we were trapped by our concern other restaurants would not be able to seat us for being late. We went for dinner, ordered drinks, sushi, and hibachi dinners. There were 8 in our party, we had reservations at 5:30. We arrived at 5:23 and were seated right away. That’s where the good ended. With only 2 chefs we sat and waited an hour with empty cups, and no explanation why we were waiting so long that’s when we found out there were 2 chefs. White rice we ordered sat in front of us 45 minutes before the chef came. Then they came to cook, the chef was nice but unfortunately the food was not good. Shrimp and salmon over cooked. Steak over cooked. Chicken tasted rotten. Fried five had no flavor. Veggies were flavorless. It was overall a terrible experience. We finished with 3 of the 8 with empty glasses. One was sleeping. But they still made out with gratuity they did not deserve. We were so disappointed that I had to write this to warn people it was a lot of money and now we’re talking about...

I reviewed all of the comments on this place before I went. I was excited to have good sushi and even happier that my kids could enjoy their favorite style of cooking while I at my sushi.

I cannot tell you how bad this was. Most of the problem was the service. When our waitress was trying to take our drink order, the chef came over to our table and yelled at her for messing up a previous tables orders. I knew this was going to be bad as this was very un-professional.

I never even got my sushi because they were "busy". The kids liked the fried up chicken and rice, I went home hungry. To top all things off, the waitress delivered the bill with the tip included because we had 6 people at the table. I calmly explained to her that I understand this policy, but reminded her I never got any food. She did not care and said I had to pay the 18% tip charge. So sorry I ever went...
