I heard a lot of hype about this place and decided to check it out. Honestly, it's just okay, not sure if I'll go back. My 8 year old son got a cheeseburger and vanilla shake and those were good. Servers are great too, very attentive and friendly. But they don't serve fries at all, so it's a bag of chips or coleslaw, really?? I ordered one 'chili dog' and one regular dog with relish, onions and mustard. I don't understand how plain, dry over-cooked ground beef is considered 'chili'. I've had a Coney Dog at other places where it's more of a meaty chili sauce and, in my opinion, it's much much better. The interior is somewhat bleak, and with no background music, it feels kind depressing. I love diners in general (Munch's is my fave), but this one just didn't impress me much. Maybe I would appreciate it more if I had grown up going there? Sorry, but it just didn't live up to the...
Read moreI love their chilli cheese dogs and milk shakes but I was ignored 4 times by the cashier while she took people paying there tabs while standing where it said to go until I sat down at the counter by the register then she asked me what I wanted then she mumbled something about someone else had to get the milkshake. Left $1 tip which she tossed towards the counter waitress saying she made the milkshake. I understand grab the bill payers first, they may leave without paying but 3 came up in line after me. She certainly didn't leave me feeling any appreciation as a customer quite the contrary. And may not go as often as I'd like but I certainly have recommended them alot. Almost walked out. But food and shakes are good ! A simple I'll be right with you would have...
Read moreThis is a dive kinda. If you like Coney Island hot dogs this is the place in Tampa Bay. Opened in 1926 or 28 they have been serving hot dogs and hamburger ever since. You won't find anything fancy. The booths and stools remind me of 1950 to 1960's hot dog places in NYC. Long and narrow buildings. No fries or onion rings, no fryer. The best coney island hot dogs I have had south of NYC. You will want 2 or 3. Old pictures and signs adorn the walls and it is the only place outside of a museum that you will see a 1930 ish General Electric side by side refrigerator that still works. Top it off with a root beer or orange float and you will be good to go. Not real healthy but a fun...
