First time visitor and heres the full review!
Very clean and cozy atmosphere. Inside decor has very natural vibes with wooden elements and decor. Love the assortment of ceramic cups used for the warm drinks and varying glasses for the iced ones. Interesting separate snacks offered the boba flavored chocolate bar is really intriguing. Not a lot of space inside however has both indoor and outdoor seating. Dog friendly, too.
My friends and i tried:
● Drinks Tea-fee Oldtown (iced) ($6) - 7.5/10 great balance between the roobois tea and the double shots of espresso and I'm a bit biased since i love cinnamon, though i felt that it needed a bit more sweetness from the house brown sugar syrup. Will try again in the hot version as i feel the flavors might stand out better.
Ode to my 90s - 8/10 coffee itself was great but the best part was the Salted black sesame cream cold foam and the crunchy dates. Deserving of being a signature drink. Again, will try again hot for sure.
First snow (iced) - 9.5/10 very good quality matcha (coming from a seasoned matcha drinker and two non-matcha fans). Great visual and great flavor w/ oat milk. Would be a 10 except I feel that the strawberry didn't have as much of an impact as I thought it would flavor-wise.
● Pastries Honey Chili Focaccia ($6.50) - 8/10 big fan of chili crips so I really liked this a hefty slice too but wished the chili was a bit more evenly distributed. Also, honey flavor wasn't as pronounced as expected. Suggestion: whipped honey butter accompanyment
Black Sesame pound cake - 6.5/10 nice sesame flavor particularly from the icing topping however a bit too dry so i suggest eating with a drink for sure. Just needs a teensy bit more moisture.
Blueberry Muffin - 8.5/10 Generous amount of blue berries, delicious crumble topping, solid breakfast muffin can't go wrong
Offers a truly unique drinking experience with Asian influences on a majority of the drinks that you truly cannot try elsewhere. Wonderful experience with ordering, atmosphere, and interactions with the staff. Highly deserving of praise and am absolutely coming again with my friends to try new drinks (I'm looking at you spring, next y'all better not be out of ingredients next...
Read moreThe best specialty coffee shop in St. Pete. I'm a trained barista and chef, and come from a family of specialty coffee enthusiasts and competition brewers. I have high standards for five stars, and Daycation has routinely exceeded every single expectation. I met Rachel (the owner) when I wrote an article for USF St. Pete's student newspaper about the shop before they opened, and I was quickly impressed by her knowledge and passion.
I knew the flavors would be right up my alley, but I honestly didn't expect the unbelievable quality and stellar customer service. Rachel is SCA certified and has tremendous knowledge of specialty coffee - a true sign of that is how she has standard sizes for many of the drinks, so as to now dilute the espresso. I've tried every one of her signature drinks, and while they are all incredible, the Ode to My 90s is a TRUE triumph. I adore black sesame in desserts and i just love that she chose to put it in a cold foam. The foam is salty, nutty and the perfect compliment to the short iced latte beneath.
I think I've bought about 20 of them in the past month. All the drinks are very lightly sweetened but they're happy to customise each drink, which I personally prefer way more than getting a cup of sugar by default.
The pastries are baked in house and supplied by my favorite bakery, Cafe Clementine, and the black sesame cake is not to be missed. Truly every thing, from the imported matcha and ceramic cups from Japan and China, respectively, to the individual garnishes and unique menu, is so so intentional and done to perfection.
Plus, Rachel and her entire team are just the best. Somehow, even though it's on MLK street and is usually quite busy, i ALWAYS find parking too! You probably won't find space to sit on the weekends, but you can definitely hang out on the weekdays. This café is just the absolute best!! At this point I'm basically their...
Read moreI had seen this pop-up on my instagram and finally decided to give it a shot. Both times I've gone there has been a line forming outside the door. The place is VERY small and even though they have a few chairs inside & outside, this is not designed to be a sit-down type of cafe. It can feel very tight inside (both times we've gone it's been packed). You can find parking on the street or around the block and walkover. I can see this being a great place to stop by if you live in Downtown St. Pete.
This is more of an artisan type of cafe where they really specialize in craft drinks. I do hope they eventually make a website outside of their instagram because I wanted to see a full menu and couldn't easily find it. I would also recommend menus by the door or larger signage on the walls for anyone new cause we felt overwhelmed the first time we went and not being able to see the menu til we got to the register.
Right now I am taking a break from coffee and doing matcha instead, so the first time I went, I got the Morning Forest Iced with Almond Milk which was really good and the second time I went I got their Berry Bliss with Matcha & Almond Milk which I liked even better! I might try their Dango next time if it's still available. I'm gluten-free so I can't eat their pastries, but my husband got the Miso-Bacon scone and said it's phenomenal!
I do hope that they can expand to a much larger location or even do a drive-thru. Regardless, we will keep coming back as it's been my favorite matcha in St....
