If I could give 10 stars I would! The owner Tonya is the type of small business owner you really want to support. She put genuine love into this store, and it shows. From the details of the artwork to the samples of Turkish delights, every it of the store feels like you have transported to a mini market in the Mediterranean. My mom and I visited the bakery after having purchased some of her cookies at the Saturday Morning Market. Instantly, Tonya made us feel at home. We sat down for lunch, and she served us Biryani Rice with chickpea soup. (Only $12!) The flavors were incredible, and we absolutely could not get over the plump Rasins in the rice. Such rich flavor and texture to the dish.
The food was served in to-go containers due to the city's regulations, however please do not let this deter you. The quality of the homemade food is nothing but superb! All the food is organic, gluten free and vegan. As someone who still eats meat, I didn't miss it at all! I left full and satisfied! She served the meal with Turkish tea which came with a beet sugar candy stick. :)
Great shopping selection of snacks at very affordable prices. Tonya let us know that she wants to help people afford organic foods so she keeps her prices low. She even sells imported saffron! Ask her about the fresh clove necklaces.

Read moreCame across St. Pete Bakery Café looking for a hole in the wall, truly local experience. The store was eerily quiet making for an awkward situation between me and my girlfriend and the people behind the counter, being tolerant of us at most, not really willing to share their culture and walk us through the unfamiliar foods. The store gets an A+ for atmosphere, it was very unique and fun to look at, but the uncomfortable vibe in the store forced me to find seating elsewhere, and enjoying my hot coffee in the hot summer sun wasn’t enjoyable.
The food was not very good. Although I may not be the target demographic, I still love to try new foods and I honestly can say I didn’t like it in the slightest. I’ve had baklava before but this baklava was 85% breading and 15% flavor, it was edible but certainly not worth the price paid. We also tried a pastry and some Turkish coffee, the pastry being generic at best and the coffee being absolutely undrinkable, it tasted like air freshener. I enjoy black coffee, but whatever spice they put in the coffee was very strong and absolutely ruined the drink.
It was definitely a unique experience, but unless you’re craving mediterranean you’re better off going to any of the other many local restaurants in...
