I always make it a point to visit the local ice cream shops when I am on vacation. I really have to concur with other reviewers when they say that the salted caramel is literally the bomb. It is not only the flavor of the ice cream but the bits of brownie within the ice cream that set it apart from the other flavors I have tried. The atomic coffee was also a favorite from the couple of times I have visited. They have very interesting items to choose from and everything is homemade using local ingredients. They also sell a few souvenir items as well. For the price you pay for a cone with a couple of scoops, you really get your monies worth as it is loaded up. The shop is small, cute and clean and the staff is friendly. If you like good quality ice cream, then this is definitely your place to visit. I will definitely stop in again the next time I am in the area.

Update: their Facebook page got back to me and said the employees should be weighing the scoops in the cup and sometimes they skip that step? I can say with confidence that my scoops were not weighed the last 2-3 times I visited and the most recent time, I got ripped off. I went there and bought 2 two scoop ice cream cups and I’m pretty sure I got maybe a 1.25 scoops for the $6.50 I paid for each. I have pictures of one of the cups I took and they were filled to the same high and quantity, which I think is little compared to the price I just paid. A fan of the flavors and everything but left a bad taste in my mouth knowing how much I paid and seeing the quantity others were given when waiting in line. Won’t be going back.

Small šŸ¦ ice-cream shoppe with unique flavors I haven't seen before. They also serve tea ā˜• and hot chocolate. Seasonal outdoor seating is available that Boston Hot Dog Company, which is next door, also uses. Service was friendly. I had the Ginger Snap šŸ¦ ice-cream. I think šŸ¤” it had pieces of Ginger Snap cookies in it, but, they didn't have any crunch. Tasted good šŸ‘ though. The only issue is the price to the portion. One scoop, which was very small, was $5. I could almost buy a half gallon at the grocery store for that price. My guess is inflation and the cost of conducting business in Salem contribute greatly to the high prices. Other than sticker shock, I recommend their šŸØ ice-cream.

Unmatched Delight with Extraordinary Service: A Review of Melt Ice Cream

Melt Ice Cream in Salem, Massachusetts, is a game-changer when it comes to frozen treats! This place takes ice cream to a whole new level with its impeccable quality and a menu that’s brimming with creativity. Since opening, it’s quickly become the best spot in town for anyone craving a sweet escape.

The ice cream at Melt is, without exaggeration, the best you’ll find anywhere. Each scoop is perfectly smooth, decadent, and bursting with rich, innovative flavors that are a far cry from your typical offerings. The selection is both exciting and comforting, with options that cater to every taste—from bold, adventurous concoctions to nostalgic classics that hit all the right notes. You’ll find yourself savoring every bite, wishing you could eat it forever.

What makes Melt truly stand out, however, is the exceptional service. The staff is incredibly friendly, welcoming, and eager to ensure you have the best experience possible. Their enthusiasm and attention to detail make the whole visit feel like a treat in itself. They’re always happy to chat about flavors, offer recommendations, and serve up your favorite scoop with a smile.

We visited on a Friday in mid-June 2025 for a dessert snack around 1ish.

There is public parking lot and street parking. We walked here from a lot. There were very few on street ones. There was also a outside seating area in front of the restaurant that may have been parking at one point. It was a couple that left when we entered. But the whole time no one went in until we left maybe like 15 mins later.

Staff was super nice and helpful giving us suggestions. It was very warm inside the shop and they had a make shift AC unit. Wonder if their main AC was broken. There was limited seating inside but informal available outside. It was very warm outside and our shakes were melting really fast.

We ordered all frappe/milkshakes: Salted peanut butter Oreo (classic flavors can’t go wrong here) Maple Bourbon mixed with atomic coffee 50/50 (my favorite) happy they do 50/50 Black raspberry chip frozen yogurt (youngest favorite always) Rose with candied orange (wife liked it, it was eh to me)

It seemed a bit on the pricey side but I think this is the going rate these days. I've had much worse $10 milkshakes. The milkshakes were good and they had a good variety of options.

Overall I'd come back and order here again if we were in town. There are other food and dessert options around town though so I wouldn't be against trying something...

I ordered a mint chocolate chip ice cream, so naturally, I expected to savor the delightful blend of minty freshness and rich chocolate chips. However, what I received was quite the disappointment. Instead of the expected green mint ice cream with vibrant chocolate chips, I was served white ice cream with chocolate chunks (and surprisingly, they didn't use any food coloring at all). To make matters worse, the flavor resembled something that had been sitting in the freezer for far too long - it tasted old and lacked that burst of freshness I was hoping for. Hoping it was just an off day, I gave the place multiple chances. On three separate occasions, I tried different flavors, hoping to find something that would redeem my initial experience, but unfortunately, they all suffered from the same issue - a distinct watered-down taste.Despite my determination to give this place a fair shot, my fourth visit left me with the conclusion that I'd rather opt for a gas station and grab a frozen soda than return to this disappointing ice...
