i'll preface this by saying that it's a downtown coffee shop open in the evening. as most of us know almost none have bounced back to these hours since covid. so, big plus there. they also nailed it in the pastry department going with vosen's german bakery, which means delightfully large cinnamon rolls and danishes. food... some of the best food i've ever had from a coffee shop. fresh hot and cold sandwiches that are large enough to be a fairly filling meal, with tons of fresh ingredients including lots of vegetables and awesome spreads like the pesto on the turkey sandwich. it's obvious the salads have also had a great deal of attention put into the quality of the ingredients, like the roasted red peppers; so good! and the house balsamic dressing is also awesome. ya know, just cause you're eating out doesn't mean you can't eat healthy. really fresh, healthy food options here which stand out against greasy, filling comfort food. but they also have breaded chicken cutlet sandwiches and a few different styles of french fries if you do want something deep fried. i would bet most people who try the food will be impressed. they also serve breakfast all day, but i have yet to venture into that menu. you can order the food online for pickup at no extra charge right up until 8pm, just go to their website. the shop is large and spacious making it nice to linger for a while. i also noticed there aren't a lot of various loud noises which makes it more comfortable than some other coffee shops. for the coffee they chose rimini roasters which in my mind blatantly says they have limited awareness of the greater coffee world and where the industry stands in the 2020s (as far as a method where the roasting is dialed in for each coffee to bring out its unique potential, as opposed to the old school method of simply light, medium, and dark roasting any coffee) but they have a decent fetco brewer and as long as they discard the drip coffee often and continuously brew fresh throughout the day & night they'll avoid unhappy coffee drinkers. my drip coffee today at 7pm was fresh, still hot and hadn't staled or oxidized yet, and i drank two cups of it so i dunno maybe i'm the one that doesn't know what i'm talking about. you can either park in a handful of spots out front on 600 south or just use the parking garage in the same building which is free for customers of the commercial spaces. it has entry from main st between 6th and 7th, or from 600 south, just east of main st. i'm obviously excited about this place as i've written half a book about it. bonnie's is filling a long-standing void in the market of night coffee, and beside that i simply enjoy the place. the staff have been warm and welcoming, nobody seems to be annoyed when i approach the counter or seems like they are rushing me to order or to leave when i've finished. i know a lot of what i've said has to do with it being new and not very busy yet but the groundwork is there for great success if they figure out how to maintain the above qualities when they do get busy. i'm looking forward to coming here on warm summer evenings and hope they choose to put sufficient tables outdoors. cuz only 1 or 2 tables would likely never be available. with their proximity to downtown, patient staff, high quality food, and outdoor seating they'll own the evening coffee market in...
Read moreBe SELECTIVE with who you tip. This place has potential but falls short due to a lack of management oversight and proper employee training.
PROS:
The atmosphere is charming and inviting. The menu is creative, with fun and unique options. Prices are reasonable, and the food is good.
CONS: Service was severely lacking—disinterested, unhelpful, and, in some cases, downright lazy. Had it not been for one exceptional employee, the busboy, this would have been a two-star experience.
Here’s what happened: We came here the day after Christmas in the morning. After we got our food, I went up to the counter to ask if they had any hot sauce or salsa. The girl at the counter had her back to me, and when I finally got her attention, she gave me a dismissive "no" without even turning around. Shortly after, the cashier walked up, and she asked him if they had hot sauce. He responded, "No, we're out," again without looking at me or offering any further assistance. The lack of effort or basic customer service was astonishing.
Thankfully, the busboy—who I regret not getting the name of (a polite, hardworking young man, possibly of Asian or Hispanic descent)—overheard the exchange. Without hesitation, he said, "I can get you some hot sauce!" And guess what? He brought it right out. Whether he knew of a hidden stash or simply took the initiative, his actions saved the experience.
This raises serious questions about the rest of the staff. Were they lying? Oblivious? Either way, their behavior was unprofessional, and it’s clear they lacked any motivation to serve the customers properly.
I made sure the busboy received a tip directly because he was the only one who deserved it. To future customers: Be selective with your tips. Reward those who actually earn it.
Management, take note: This young man is a gem and the only reason I would consider coming back. The rest of the team could learn a...
Read moreThis place is absolutely horrible! Do not give them your business! On the exterior they look like a great place but how they treat their employees, like my son is absolutely horrendous. He's a dishwasher there and they yell at him when they run out of hot water so think of it like this, you're eating food that's been prepared off of dishes that are not sanitized! I'm putting yourself at risk for food poisoning! Also they don't like paying their employees on time. And change the pay dates to whatever suits the owner. This is not how you run a business! Also the lack of hot water should terrify the hell out of everyone I will be calling the better Business bureau and the health inspector on this place. They still owe my son money and refuse to pay him even though they said his check would be ready today at 5:00 p.m.. what kind of a jerk does that to their employees?! He thinks he's going to have a Michelin star restaurant, HA! NOT IF I HAVE A DAMN THING TO SAY ABOUT IT. If I could give zero stars and leave a review, I would. But since that's not how Google reviews work I'll go ahead and give him the one star and tell everyone how much they suck! Also their Cooks smoke cigarettes out by the dog park and do not wash their hands upon returning. Because there's no hot water because their water heater is too small. If you don't want to have foodborne illnesses, I'd suggest avoiding this place...
