First of all, this is the best place for whiskey enthusiasts in Salt Lake. Period. FAR better than Bourbon House. And they won't try to dishonestly hustle you.
Environment: 4.5 stars. Fun, clean, relaxed, low key hipster vibes. I love that you can sit right in front of the enormous collection of whiskey bottles. The only reason it's not 5 stars is that sometimes (not so much during Covid) they let this place get packed like a sardine can and don't turn people away or make them wait outside.
Service: 5 stars. Very friendly and conversational bar tenders. Willing to offer suggestions and knowledgeable about offerings. Also fairly quick service despite sometimes being busy. They check in regularly to make sure you're attended to.
Menu: For Utah, 5 stars. Very expansive menu. They update it so that they don't have a lot on there that's not really available. Unlike, say, Bourbon House, which I'm certain leaves Blanton's and Stagg on their menu forever to give you the old bait-and-switch (sorry, no Blanton's, how about $8 for a .75 oz pour of Wild Turkey 101 instead? No thanks!), and who also have lower prices listed online than on their paper menu, all to reel you in. In contrast, these guys are totally legit with their offerings!!
Food: 3 stars. Great service on the food, but this place just isn't winning any awards in food. Both my buddy and I were underwhelmed. Treat this place as a great bar and not as a great restaurant and you'll love it.
Prices: 4 stars. Not especially good, not too bad either. I can work with this. There are certainly worse places, like an aforementioned competitor. And these guys will actually give you the full legal 1.5 oz neat pour instead of a less than 1 oz neat pour. There are of course, offerings in varying price ranges.
All in all, fantastic place, easily my...
Read moreOn my way out to Idaho, I followed a suggestion to try The Whiskey for brunch. Luckily parking was free because it was on a Sunday. Hallelujah!
There was a DJ at the front playing cool 80s tunes, and there was a healthy amount of people already dining and having bloodies. Despite it having a classy Irish bar vibe, it is not dark inside. There's great natural lighting and it's pretty open air. There is also a patio, but we decided to sit at the bar.
I was very much craving a bloody (as you probably could tell already) and a bomb-a$$ breakfast bagel. It was pretty dead at the bar, yet the bartender took awhile to make his way over to us. He definitely saw us when we sat down, but he didn't wanna seem to deal with our a$$es. Lil' grumpy bartendy, aw.
The New Place Bloody is not that spicy, but it's tasty. It's $10 each (most expensive compared to the other $8 bloodies), so I felt bad putting multiple on my friend's tab. Then he got a damn good old fashioned -- for brunch! Whew.
Food came out in a decent amount of time. My friend was pleased with his Whiskey Street Breakfast, but he may have lower standards. My Breakfast Bagel looked better than it tasted, and I wish I could say the same for the potatoes. The potatoes seemed old and definitely were boring. No seasoning or anything, so I easily could have made better at home.
The Breakfast Bagel is what I cared about most, but the bagel itself was like rubber. Not fun. The ingredients sound good on paper, but the flavor fails to be delivered. Boring. You can find better.
I would want to come back and try later in the evening for drinks only, but maybe when that brunch...
Read moreI have had great experiences at this establishment. I haven't had the time to experience the food but it looks delicious. I usually stop by while waiting for friends and I'm probably being stood up. Oh well what a better way to spend some time. I'm a shot and a beer guy and I'm open to try almost anything but like to keep it somewhat close to things I like. The barkeep are great with any info you give and pair up great flavors of the beer and whiskeys offered. My experiences with giving them choice are excellent because it was as if the beer and whiskey combos could have been made by the same company meant to be served together. Kinda like cheese on a hamburger or cake and icecream or chips and salsa. I definitely recommend this place for the feel and style, the service and knowledge, and most of all they never make you feel like you should know everything about whiskeys. I'm usually a straight forward Jim Beam and St. Pauli Girl drinker. I've been changed and I dont mind asking for suggestions because they've never let me down and they've created a curiosity that is adventurous and intriguing. I'm sure lf you asked them if they like using their knowledge and experience to help out a novice in whiskeys it makes their day so exciting and fun. Just like any expert in something they didnt do the work to keep it to themselves. Go in willing to try something new and like me you will find yourself having those drinks when chillin with friends at home. I will try the food next time and will add to this review. If I seem a bit off I had a great time and dont worry I'm riding trax home. Bottoms...
