So first the pros: It's a nice hotel, the lobby, restaurant, etc. are all very polished and elegant. But it's the only place that is. The location was in the heart of downtown which made getting around easy. The valet staff were great and always were able to get our car very quickly after calling down.
Cons: It's incredible the prices this place charges for the rooms you get. This is clearly an old building that has been renovated and updated and it shows. They seem to have blown all the money on the lobby/restaurant to give the place a luxury feel, but then skimped when it came to the actual rooms. They're tiny, I've stayed in larger rooms at a Holiday Inn. This in and of itself is not a bad thing, but the prices they charge for these tiny rooms is ridiculous. We were in the "King Suite" as well, and it was a shoebox. The amenities in the room were baffling. The TV is ancient and the remote was barely functional, so even turning it on was a chore. They've also disabled the ability to change the input so if you wanted to use like an HDMI cable to your laptop to watch something you're out of luck. And there's absolutely no ability to cast from your phone or tablet to the TV because it's too old. The bathroom was fine, but again tiny, and, although I know this is an old building that had been renovated, they never bothered to fix the shower head height, which is about a foot, to a foot and a half lower than normal shower heads. I'm a tall guy, and the shower head came barely to my shoulders so I had to stoop. Not blaming that entirely on the hotel, but again for the price I don't expect to hunch over to take a shower. Last, and the big one, they DO NOT HAVE KING BEDS. At least not in the "King Suite." They are clearly smaller than normal king beds, and it is plainly obvious. They may be what's called an Olympic Queen, slightly larger than a queen, but not a king. Now, normally this wouldn't be a big deal, but we were in town for a my wife's medical procedure that required more than your average amount of time resting. I specifically wanted a king to accommodate her comfort while we had to share the bed during that time. When I informed the front desk, thinking it was just a mistake, I was told that no, "I was definitely in the King Suite" as if that addressed the issue. When I said, no the bed, it's not a king sized bed, I was told that it was. When I said no, it isn't and I know because I've slept in king beds before and that is not one, they just kinda shrugged and said sorry. So I was basically called a liar and then shrugged aside for inquiring.
For the price, there are MUCH better options in this area. Do yourself a favor and do...
Read moreThis is absolutely not a 4 star hotel. So I am giving one star for the room and the hotel itself. It is an older hotel but everything is nice. The bed was really nice and so we're the pillows. They accommodated us checking in early and the day staff was very friendly and helpful and the valet guys were awesome! We normally stay at the Grand America, Sheraton or Marriott downtown but decided to give hotel Monaco a shot since we hadn't been there yet and the reviews were really good. We didn't have problems until we came back from dinner. Our room smelled like marijuana really bad and it was obviously coming through the vents. I don't mind the smell sometimes but this was not just an occasional smell. About every 10-20 minutes there was fresh smoke coming through the vents. We decided to take off for a bit and let it clear out and stopped at the front desk to complain about the smell. There was a lady and a guy working the desk for night shift and when I explained, the lady started to be apologetic until the guy, who was obviously her superior began being very dismissive to me about it. He made the comment that it was only pot, and that there was nothing they could do. He was rude, dismissive and arrogant. When we came back the room smelled worse than before. We just dealt with it due to the guys serious unprofessional handling of the situation. The next morning we had a couple's massage scheduled that we had arranged through the hotels recommendation, when the company was 20 minutes late I called the front desk to find out what had happened and they informed me that it had been cancelled on Friday. We were not notified and we never cancelled the massage. The massage company y that was referred by the hotel refused to make it right and send someone over. The only thing that ended up good was Alexis that works on the day shift. She took half the charge of the room off for everything and she is the only reason I am giving a see star. We have stayed all over the country in 4 and 5 star hotels and never been treated the way that we were here. At best the hotel Monaco is a 3 star hotel. As it is it is way over rated and over priced for what it is. Unfortunately after our experience we will not be back. We will keep our local business to hotels that not only are 4 stars or above but have a 5 star staff...
Read moreFor $300.00 a night, we got a tiny room facing construction, bathroom door without a lock, unstable room temperatures, no blankets- just thin sheets covering an empty down comforter. Was hungry all night, no room service available, not a single vending machine on the property. Paid $40 to park in garage that isn't validated and staff did not communicate the fact that valet parking was way cheaper. In fact, staff doesn't tell you anything. Went downstairs to order take out from the "world renowned" chef-run restaurant and got told they only have bagels because the hostess was the only one there. Ended up ordering food delivery from Denny's, which was cold. So bad, so disappointed. I've been treated better at Motel 6 honestly.
Update: In response to owner reply seen here: NO, There is NO room service available at any time. I asked the front desk and was told that that service is no longer available due to the covid pandemic. I also asked about the adopt a goldfish service that the website speaks of and was informed of the same. Also, I am aware that there is a full menu online on the Bambara website, I saw that as well as the signage posted in the elevators of the hotel. However, I asked how to get food from there (once again, at the front desk), and was told that I could order take-out. I asked if I just call the restaurant for this or what (once again, having to pry any info out of the desk clerk) and was told "They get pretty busy down there so they probably won't answer the phone." Then, I had to ask "Well then what do I do for food?" And was told to go down there and order it from the hostess. Which I did and that's when I was told, "We only have bagels because I'm the only one here." Anyways, there was never a bell-boy to help us with doors or bags, never anything that would set this establishment in the 4 star range. I am personally still exhausted from my stay and should have gone camping instead. I will never recommend this place mostly because they don't even deal with customer complaints, they just deny...
