Overall I had a positive experience! This is a new restaurant in my neighborhood so I want to support the business.
What I liked: They honored a 25% off deal that was expired by one day. Really awesome to do for a customer! Waiter (Aaron) was awesome - just the right amount of attentiveness and was funny. Food came out quickly. Very clean inside and friendly staff overall.
What could be improved: The food was pretty good, but the reason this review is four stars instead of five is the food. (Completely my own opinion) I think the pizza needed a bit more sauce, and the crust needed a bit more salt. For example, we ordered the 'Love Ya Elote' pizza (effectively a BBQ chicken pizza) and we were not able to taste the BBQ sauce on the pizza. Similarly, we got the Chew-BACA pizza and there was not enough ricotta spread to stand out. Lastly, we got the 'Pretza' (pretzel with marinara sauce). It was ok but the pretzel dough was a bit bland. Ambience was cold. (Also a matter of opinion but) I think a warmer atmosphere is preferable. e.g. maybe more paintings or music. There were something like 3-4 plants in the restaurant, so even putting a lot more plants around the restaurant could make it feel more alive inside.
I want to emphasize again that my experience was positive overall. I would still encourage people to give Pizza Volta a try if they are on the fence! I only shared my constructive criticisms above because Pizza Volta feels like a place that values the input of their customers, which in and of itself is...
Read moreFour of us went for the advertised drag queen event that was supposed to happen weekly in June and it was cancelled without notice the night we went and they didn’t honor the specials that were advertised to accompany the performance.
The pizza was good and they had a great beer selection, service was attentive and everything came out without issues.
When we got the bill there was an unexpected charge for kitchen gratuity. Call me old-fashioned but the cost of paying your kitchen staff fairly should be built into your menu pricing, not added on to customers’ bills as a surprise at the end of the meal. Two medium pizzas and five beers cost around $100 after tip.
Re management's reply: Getting defensive about a customer's experience on google isn't a good look unless they're generally slangin mean words. Nothing I said above was unkind- I'm giving you some honest feedback here. You advertised a weekly special in June and didn't follow through. Additionally, I was never given the option to pass on the kitchen gratuity charge- but I probably wouldn't, since the existence of a kitchen gratuity charge implies to me that kitchen staff aren't paid a fair wage. This place didn't hit for me, but I'm sure it might be someone else's cup of tea. Stop hating on people who are giving you...
Read moreVolta has a cool and interesting menu. I mean, where else can you get funeral potato pizza? (Don't answer that. I'm afraid of how many other places might have that.) The creativity is impressive, but maybe it'd be nice to have a few more favorites on stand-by? Might just be me, but I wanted to see a meatier pizza than anything on their menu - without paying $3.50 per meat topping to add them. Not having that cardiac arrest menu option does mean we tried the meatball (bawl?) pizza, and it was good. Meatballs had a nice kick. We also ordered the closest thing they have to a Hawaiian pizza. I picked the jalapeños off my slice, but the rest of it worked okay. The bourgie menu extended to the sodas too. Order a Dr Pepper and get a glass bottle with a classic label and real sugar - 12oz I think? Or you can skip ahead to the soda that's made with glitter (a Taproot strawberry soda, in a 12oz can). By the way, Volta, when someone orders that soda, maybe bring a glass with it? We can't see the glitter through the can.
Add it all up and throw in the manager's impressive handlebar moustache, and you get a fairly pretentious experience. And in retrospect, in spite of the pretention, there's some cool stuff on offer here. Plus that...
