So I took my friend's advice and checked out Common wealth coffeehouse and was NOT disappointed! The Ambience was absolutely ON Point!
I came here for coffee. I left questioning whether I needed to change my entire perspective of what is considered high functioning feng shui.
Let’s just start with the obvious. This place looks like someone handed a Pinterest board to an architect and said, “Do that, but make it super sexy.” You walk in and suddenly feel like you should be reading French philosophy and wearing linen. High ceilings, brick walls, perfectly scattered greenery, and sunlight that adds the perfect blend of lighting and warmth.
I sat outside with the French omelet plate that looked like it came with its own passport. The omelet was fresh, packed with chirzo like it was prepared by your secret highschool crush. The potatoes were golden and crispy without trying too hard. The toast wasn’t just bread... it was bread with butter, you can't really mess that up. Real solid food though, no cut corners.
Now let’s talk about the staff effortlessly A1. No fake enthusiasm, just real people who know how to run a café without making it feel like a transaction. My coffee came out fast, hot, and tasty... Not too sweet not too bitter. Like it knew I had a rough night and nobody hovered or gave that weird corporate vibe. It was just smooth, quiet confidence. Like the espresso machine’s was auditioning to be my new therapist.
The whole place had this calm energy, like a reset button in building form. People working upstairs, folks on laptops, couples on low-key dates, one guy who clearly came to sit and contemplate his entire 20s. It’s that kind of spot. It makes you want to linger and not check your phone every three seconds.
If you're you come to San Antonio and you haven’t pulled up to Commonwealth, you're doing yourself a disservice. It’s not really the food or the coffee - it's the entire experience. Eloquent. Productive. Something that I could see fitting right into the Yoshi Portfolio of...
Read moreI went into the Jones location this afternoon and ordered a hot chai. The barista who originally made was continuously complaining and shouting that she hates this place and she hates her job. I’m sitting at the bar top. It was uncomfortable and upsetting because I live next door and do come often for pick me ups and to de-stress. I asked for a remake because it just tasted like cold cinnamon milk. I ordered it hot. No big deal. Easy fix. She tells Tyler that she sucks at chai and is telling them how much she hates her job and she can’t wait to get out of there. Again, why am I tipping or coming to a place where the aura and vibes are extremely negative. Tyler then proceeds to talk while the other complains. After sometime the chai was made…. Tyler slammed it down in front me, doesn’t say one word to me as if I’m not a paying customer or some inconvenience. It looked like slop to the point where I felt disgusted and couldn’t even taste it. If these people don’t care? How can I trust they aren’t messing with orders? I came in the day before and ordered the same exact thing and it was NOTHING like that. When I asked for a refund she became hostile and began to gaslight me. I left. Baristas are just serving caffeinated drinks not saving lives. It shouldn’t be that deep.
There were 3 people I saw on shift.
The gentlemen who was helpful and kind
Tyler- hostile and rude
and the hate my job/life gal. - don’t know her name
It’s unfortunate that I can’t come to my local coffee shop without a black cloud over my head because of the rude and horrible staff. We all have personal stuff going on and it’s not the paying customers business or the customers problem....
Read moreI’ve given Commonwealth Coffee two chances now, and unfortunately, both visits left me disappointed due to the same barista’s rudeness. The first time, I thought maybe it was just an off day, but I still walked away feeling upset because of his arrogant and dismissive attitude.
This morning, I decided to give it another shot, only to be met with the same unfriendly service. What made it worse was that another customer walked in right after me and was greeted much more warmly—almost as if there was a clear difference in how we were being treated. I have no idea what his issue is, but it certainly didn’t feel welcoming.
It’s frustrating because I live in this area, and I genuinely enjoy the coffee here. But with four other coffee shops just on this block, you’d think customer service would be a priority. Kindness costs nothing, and in a competitive market, it should be the bare minimum.
For reference, this happened at 7:00 AM on 3/20, and the barista in question was the only one working at the time. I really hope management takes customer experience more seriously because great coffee isn’t enough if the service consistently makes people...
