Sorry in advance for no pretty pictures… was way too excited!! Where to begin as everything was outstanding?! When you first walk up you are greeted at the door and the wonderful hostess goes above and beyond holding the door for you. The atmosphere is very chill and the restaurant is very clean more minimalist look. We sat down and looked through the menu and it was also perfectly completed with just enough to provide you with options but also not so much it’s overwhelming. The waitress, Gabriella “Gabby”, that girl…. She needs a pay raise, promotion, a free trip to NOLA, a new puppy… anything that girl wants!!! I cannot speak highly enough about her energy, customer service, and positive vibes which you could clearly see on every single one of the guests she interacted with to the employees. Gabby took time out of her day to personalize the experience with each of us and it didn’t slow her down in any way… she also took the time to listen to the nothing but compliments from everyone I had heard around me (I’m sure if there was anything negative she would’ve been on top of that)! I happened to mention that I had a slight allergy to raspberries since one of the mixed beignets had them and not only did she take that seriously but the chef whipped up some new beignets just in case for me… I have never felt so special and cared for!! The food, you ask?! Oh Lord, forgive me, for I have sinned, I prayed over my food so much because it blessed me in so many ways. The seasoning, the creativity, the freshness, the colors, the love in every single bite was absolutely Heavenly… I hope there’s a NOLA Brunch & Beignets in Heaven because that will make it even better. As you can tell from my half eaten omelette picture I was really excited after the coffee drink and beignets I couldn’t wait to eat my omelette. Now I know you are wondering what I had, and I apologize for the even longer wait: the coffee/alcohol drink - Cafe Brulot (delectable Irish Espresso Coffee with a beautiful orange zest zing), the Beignets - Mixed (Classic because you need it in your life & Lemon curd life changer), the meal: Blue Crab Omelette with a Creole Hollandaise upgraded with some delicious Crawfish! I’m telling you from 1st sip of the water to the last bite of my food, the food alone could get you in the door just fine but added on top of that personalities like Gabby and the care from every staff member (even with the owner wasn’t there watching) would make you stay and spend just to keep talking to them! The owner should be BEYOND VERY PROUD of his establishment and creating such an amazing experience because I know I’m proud of him and them!
3 tips to the owner: think about it, the Creole Hollandaise with crab and crawfish but as a dip, then add some bread, for a wonderful appetizer. The Espresso drink also able to be served HOT. And, ALLIGATOR, because NOBODY has alligator around here!
Thank you for starting my morning right and blessing my entire day! Gabby, we will for sure be back and one of those...
Read moreFirst off, I am not a negative review writer (check my reviews). I think it’s important to provide effective feedback to local establishments, which can help a business grow and be successful. The first star deduction is for product. On the 2nd visit I ordered the shrimp and grits again @ $24 Per plate. It’s quite startling that upon taking one spoonful of the grits, I could see the bottom of the plate. This dish is traditionally served in a bowl, and while I understand every restaurant and chef is different, the portion of the grits is my primary feedback. Grits, similar to rice, and other starches are the least expensive ingredient. I am baffled at why this dish Is served with such a small amount of an item, so plentiful and inexpensive. The second time I ordered it I was really bothered because it was even less than the first time. Feedback. During these inflationary times, customers are looking at value more than they ever have. For the price of the dish, I could purchase wild-caught shrimp from Whole Foods, organic stone ground grits, and ingredients for a savory gravy, cook and serve for two people. I hope you will consider your value proposition for what you are offering at such a high price. The second star deduction is for poor customer service. I parked right in front of the restaurant and made eye contact with the host as I walked in and she did not smile, only looked down to pick up a menu and asked me where I wanted it to be seated. There was no greeting whatsoever. It’s important that greetings are consistent. I had driven 30 minutes to have brunch at this specific restaurant during my work week. It would have been nice to be greeted properly. On a positive note, the woman who served me at my table was very pleasant.
I hope you will take note of this feedback and make changes. When a customer spends close to $50 for brunch including beverage, beignets and gratuity, they have earned the right to share feedback. Inflation is a real thing, and as I mentioned before value is more important today than it ever has been. Don’t take good and loyal customers for granted. Lastly, for comparison, I did a similar review on the same dish at another San Antonio restaurant, which was a five star review. Please see the pictures of how this dish was prepared. It was a generous portion with...
Read moreWe were in the area on the 4th of July and decided to give this place a try around 11:00 am. The small parking lot was completely full, but we were able to find free street parking just around the corner. Despite the restaurant being busy, we were seated immediately which was a pleasant surprise.
The front-of-house team made a great first impression. The host was welcoming, and the young lady who walked us to our table was polite and upbeat. Our server, Terrance, was attentive and kind throughout our visit. Bonus points for the clean restrooms, and I appreciated that the sinks were outside of the toilet stalls which was a thoughtful touch for flow and cleanliness.
The coffee was delicious and arrived quickly. As for the food, I was really hoping for something that would take me back to my roots. Growing up on authentic Cajun and Creole cuisine, I was excited but unfortunately, the flavors just didn’t deliver.
The fried green tomatoes were heavily coated in cornmeal and noticeably lacking in seasoning. The shrimp had the same batter and shared the same fate. They appeared to have seasoning but they tasted bland. The remoulade did add a bit of life to the dish, but overall, both items missed the mark. On a brighter note, the Creole crab purses were tasty.
We ordered the Mixed Beignets togo, but my husband couldn’t resist when they arrived so we ended up trying two before we even made it home. It came with 4 beignets, Classic, Chocolate, Lemon Curd, and a Seasonal Fruity Pebble beignet. The beignets were hands down the highlight of the meal. I was initially skeptical of the Fruity Pebble version, but it turned out to be surprisingly good. It was nostalgic and well executed.
The ambiance was pleasant and the space had a clean, modern feel. However, adding a little soft jazz or blues music would really help evoke that true New Orleans vibe.
With an 18% tip we spent a little over $80 for just the two of us.
Overall: This place has potential. The service and atmosphere are on point, and they clearly care about the guest experience. With just a few tweaks to the seasoning and soundtrack, they could turn a good visit into a truly great one. We’ll definitely give it...
