Edit in response to ownerâs reply: My children are fully capable of ordering on their own as my husband and I have always encouraged this. They are not tiny kids, theyâre tween/teens. Regardless, we havenât even seen the flavors you offered so how could parents order anyway? Notice to the public - you have to enter knowing your order. There is no menu on the wall (a simple fix to this) and even though we enjoy Blue Bell, we couldnât even think of 37 flavors. I recommend a menu on the wall, or at least outside your door so we could walk in prepared. Chalkboard to change with the flavors, whatever the case. The sweet lady at the register seemed to be the one happy person there that night, and she even had one arm all bandaged up in a sling. She seems to be the right fit for this kind of retail space.
Sadly, we were very disappointed in the service and down right attitude we received from this place. We frequent the riverwalk, but I do understand the high crowds right now with holidays and Alamo Bowl. That said, you have a spot on the river so adjust! My 3 kids were in line trying to decide which of the â37 flavorsâ they wanted. FYI⌠You cannot see all the flavors until youâve walked in front of the counter like any other ice cream shop. When the older gentleman behind the counter approached my youngest, she started stuttering as sheâs looking at the flavors in front of her. This gentleman waved his hand at her and said, âIf youâre not ready then Iâm moving on!â He proceeded to take everyoneâs order behind us in line. My little daughter looked like a deer in headlights being spoken to this way at what should be a happy place - an ice cream shop! There are plenty of other ice cream shops on the river so we will forever go to others from now on. Simple solution - have a menu with all your flavors on the wall so the CHILDREN can be ready when the âscoopersâ are ready to take...
Read moreOlder man working was extremely disrespectful. Stood in line 20 minutes just for him to ignore us once it was our turn and tell us to shut up. We decided on a flavor after having a pleasant conversation with the gentleman, so we were surprised to see that he had completely ignored us once we asked for a flavor. Since this shop does not sample flavors, it admittedly took us a second to decide, however we were the only few people left in the store, so I wouldnât think there was any ârushâ that he could not complete serving us. As he was starting the other customers order, I asked him âExcuse me sir, we chose a flavor, to which he outright ignored me as if I was not a person. It took my brother coming over for him to respond telling us that we needed to hurry up and that âhe wasnât going to argue with us.â which, there is nothing to argue about? Again, these people were in no rush. The lovely lady serving the people in front of us had been talking to the group she was serving for about 5 minutes. We waited patiently, and deserved to be served just as everyone else did. How we were treated was very inappropriate, and honestly, made us feel as though we were an annoyance for trying to spend money here.
Edit: Proudly keeping this review up after the owners response :) Again, we asked a question and that was why we were debating, yes after 20 minutes. After the ownerâs inflammatory behavior, I believe the situation couldnât be described better than by the owners own words. No further explanation needed clearly. Glad to see this establishment prioritizes arguing for the sake of arguing rather than a good experience. Justinâs ice cream down the riverwalk is open and seems lovely for anyone wanting recommendations for GOOD ice cream shops rather than a...
Read moreThis is a small but very busy spot downtown with a nice variety of ice cream flavors. We ordered banana splits and choose to sit at the countertop since you can't really eat that and walk around. While sitting at the counter obsevering the customers and workers (I'm a ppl watcher) I noticed the workers were NOT washing or sanitizing their hands when going from preparing ice cream to taking money to using their phones to assisting the next customer. Money and phones are the nastiest, dirtiest things we touch then you add touching the cash register into the equation. That is usually something I pay attention to before hand but it was so busy and we were trying to pick flavors, we completely missed it. The ice cream was very good and much needed on a hot night walking around downtown but that one thing is why I gave 3 stars. I hope that the owner/manager corrects that because it is VERY unsanitary. Have one person deal strictly with the money while everyone else prepare the ice cream OR wear gloves while fixing ice cream and remove them when taking money......something is better than nothing. Think about where that money has been.....in somebody's sweaty bra, g string, sock, hand and so many more places. Phones touch so many surfaces and be in so many bathrooms while ppl are crapping....not everybody wash their hands after wiping BEFORE grabbing their phone again. I could go on but that's enough of a visual. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE change this method before someone gets sick trying to enjoy a cold snack...
