Don't pass this place by while you are driving through the neighborhood because they are making some darn good hot sauces. The salsa roja, which actually has a very orange tinge, has a nice, mild tomato flavor with a notable garlic presence. One of the people with me commented that it was similar to a spicy tomato basil soup, and that is true if you substitute cilantro for the basil (and that has given me an idea for a recipe—watch for that). The salsa verde is strong on tang, with a noticeable vinegar pucker and some good green chili flavor as well. And when you put both of these together on their chilaquiles, that's one tasty meal with a bit of a kick. And if you are looking for more heat, try the habanero salsa which I believe is a variation on their roja salsa. You can definitely taste the habanero while the heat climbs above Hot on my scale. Then they have a salsa that combines habanero, ghost chili, and scorpion chili, and that one will light your mouth on fire! It has a good taste with a bit of sweetness, and you can definitely get a peppery kick from the three different chilis, which amp it up to beyond Fiery on my scale. It never reaches the point of heat just for the sake of pain, and it was a nice addition to the chilaquiles. Ponchos & Gringos has breakfast, Mexican dishes, sandwiches, and more, and you are certain to find something quite tasty on their menu. Just be sure to ask for that salsa to kick it up to the next level.

Panchos & Gringos is my favorite local breakfast/lunch restaurant by far. Sergio, the owner, is extremely friendly and makes me feel at home. I always see him engaging with customers to share laughs, chat, and ensure everyone’s taken care of. It’s not just going here for food, but also to feel appreciated and welcome. My friend and I often go in for the All American Breakfast (best pancakes I’ve had), Tacos, Breakfast Sandwiches, recently introduced specials, and coffee, all of which I highly recommend… not to mention their house made sauce is out of this world! Prices are very reasonable while the homey atmosphere is priceless. Carlos, Jessenia, and staff are professional, courteous, and helpful. I feel super lucky to live close enough to be able to frequently enjoy this hole in the wall spot. If you ever see the sign outside (“Yes we’re open”), do yourself a favor and check this place out!

A unique and homey find, close to downtown SA! Visiting from Austin and needed to find a place to eat breakfast that was by our Airbnb. Very happy to have found Panchos and Gringos! Drinks are self-serviced. Paper menus are set by the front entrance for quick and easy reference. The owner, Sergio, is very passionate about his food and restaurant. He offered my husband a tour of the kitchen, and we can 100% testify that he runs a very clean and neat kitchen! Also, NO canned goods are used at all, only real ingredients. Food was AMAZING and authentic. Portions were extremely generous. We got our three young children three Kid’s Meals with Fruit Salad Bowls. It was more than enough food. Our server Carlito was very friendly and courteous. If you’re wanting to support a local business, I we recommend eating at Panchos and Gringos!

Today I went to my favorite place on the east to eat boho breakfast sandwich. As always I bring people with me to promote and taste the food do some work and have meetings here for years ,But today we went to order and as he comes to the table we order and he seemed to be rushing us but will everyone decided and let us know “ I have other tables to go I will come back “ we said ok as we completed our order . I ordered a coffee and a juice as I waited for my food , we got it and we ate everything as usual except tea but moving along . We paid and we take things to leave I left him know I didn’t get my coffee and he just said “go get it “ ok , I wanted a refund because I didn’t want it but I go and get it , self served here. Then we leave saying Goodbye

He yells out “The next time you come here I am going to charge for this cup ! Are you going to take it ! I’m surprised because of the way he spoke and I say “we paid for the cup and I don’t understand ? He says “ Well he left it and the next time I will charge you and I said sir , that’s fine I will take the cup but it’s paid for with the meal we paid for . But I will take it and leave As I am walking out the door with frustration he is still yelling about charging me after we just spend $50 on breakfast not to mention how many time we come here a month and bring patrons.

As I’m walking out I’m at lost for words because I have never had any issue with him , I felt the need to speak to him privately about how he made not only me and my team feel but as soon as I walk in he is talking about it to a patron and walked up next to the counter before I can speak he said “Now let me tell you something that is wasteful and I don’t want your Buissness don’t come back .

Wow ,I express to everyone in the restaurant (5) people that where now looking at me while he is yelling acrossed the counter at me to “please take your cup when you leave or you will be yelled at and banned from this restaurant you’ve promoted for years. As I walked out I said have a good day feeling defeated because once again some in my life has showed their poker / joker face and the whole time they were in hiding and I seen them for whom I wanted them to be and not who they are !

He is a person that wants to make money from my community so he puts a restaurant there to take our money not really valuing the people in the community, just holding on by a string depending on us to pull him up with our income to increase his but never thinking we would ever see his true being . Maybe my true self says he had a bad morning , maybe it’s mental health , maybe it’s personal but what ever it is as a person you have to 1st see it to know how to react internally.

But from now on no one gets a pass I see what I see and I respect you as such I will see nothing more unless you show me more .

I will not go back and eat there again. The name expressed it all and I ignored the signs my fault

Lesson learned #jokerface #clowns #hurtmyfeelings...

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY ON THIS PLACE!!!! I REPEAT DO NOT!!!!!!!!‼️🚫🚫🚫

We are visiting from out of the state and had a horrible experience. Upon arrival, a younger man attempted to sit us and the owner, SERGIO, quickly stepped into the conversation to say “don’t sit anybody else, I don’t have space” when there was clearly an open table for us. The young man pointed to the table and the owner just said “oh ok”. We sat down and he came up to us and said “are you ready to order? You need to make this quick because I have a big table”

Although I was thinking, how is this my problem as a paying customer? I didn’t say anything and gave a third opportunity to a man with a disgusting attitude. My friend ordered - and asked for a drink to which he responded “DON’T ASK ME FOR A DRINK RIGHT NOW BECAUSE I AM TOO BUSY WITH A BIG TABLE” ( we later found out it was self serve which is fine but I don’t see the need to be so rude, we could’ve just said that)

I ORDERED! I asked for egg whites only on the omelette and I understand he can’t accommodate for whatever reason but again, the attitude!! The answer I got was: “ I ALREADY TOLD YOU I HAVE VENEZUELAN PEOPLE WORKING IN THE KITCHEN AND I CANT DO ANYTHING LIKE THAT RIGHT NOW I AM VERY BUSY”

at this point I was done so I told him how unhappy I was with customer service because ever since we walked in all we had gotten were negative comments, attitude, etc. RESPETFULLY!! I used no bad words or offensive language. He said thank you and walked away refusing service.

AT THE END OF THE DAY I am happy knowing I left a place that does not deserve the money I earn with my hard work!

Thank you for reading me, and if you see this Sergio, I HOPE THIS CAN ENCOURAGE YOU TO BE A GOOD BUSINESS OWNER AND LEARN SOME CUSTOMER SERVICE...

Food: Food was good, but nothing you can't make at home with basic cooking skills. It was priced well enough that I could see myself going back if the atmosphere and service was better.

Service: The wait staff was not attentive. During my time dining-in, I saw a few large groups leave because no one came to seat them, even though there was a sign that told people to "wait to be seated." It was hard to understand the wait staff. Their English was not proficient, but was well enough to muddle through--I don't blame them for this--I actually commend them for trying. But, the waitstaff were very quiet and timid; I hope they're alright. You have to go get your own drinks, which is not an issue, but it would've been nice for the waitstaff to explain that.

Atmosphere: The dine-in area is darker than it seems in these Google photos. We went in the morning so it wasn't hot outside, but it was hot and humid inside. There was a ceiling fan, but it wasn't turned on. There were a lot of clutter and old signs. I recommend removing these things elsewhere.

Conclusion: This could be a good neighborhood eatery with a few efforts put in place. It has a simple menu and local eatery potential. I recommend having a process to greet or just acknowledge customers. I also just recommend training waitstaff to do minimal effort things like greet customers, tell them they have to get their own drinks even if you're ordering from a waitstaff, etc. A few more light bulbs and some natural lights would help with the atmosphere. Additionally, turn on the ceiling fan or increase the air conditioning output; it shouldn't be cooler outside than inside.

I do not recommend eating at this place, but I would also not pass up on it for the sake of...
