I was here this past weekend and had a HORRIBLE experience with the manager/bartender Rick (or Rich, he declined to give me his name and I had to ask someone else) There were 2 other people with me who can attest to his poor customer service. I live in Houston and was visiting a friend before she deployed. She usually has a female bartender and requested a drink that she normally gets from her but couldn’t remember the name of. When she described it he said that he could make it. She ordered 2, one for me and one for herself. It was disgusting. When she told him that isn’t what she asked for he replied that she would have to pay for another drink because if he made another one he would have to pay for it out of his pocket. When the payee told him that she hadn’t signed her receipt yet and the drinks hadn’t been paid for he told her it didn’t matter and it wasn’t necessary to get the payment. When I interjected, asking if we could just swap it for something else he rudely replied that he was talking to the person that was paying. I asked if I could speak with the manager and he stated that he was the manager and that he was calling security for me. I walked to a different bar area and asked a different bartender for the manager when he pointed behind me and said that he was. He was about 6 inches from my face when I turned around and he told me to get out. When I told him he was really close and in my personal space I was escorted out by security. Even the other patrons were confused as to how it escalated so quickly. Little did he know we were scoping the place out for her deployment/going away party. I am a 24 year old young black woman and have never felt so disrespected and embarrassed. From what my friend told me before our visit and what I saw BEFORE I got to Rick, the bar itself isn't bad. The customer service and treatment we received this past weekend however, very disappointing. I don’t see myself patronizing this bar ever again unless the Rich (or Rick)...
Read moreVisiting from out of town, been to SA many many times but never been here. I can’t recommend this bar highly enough. You don’t know what you’re going to get when traveling and reviews say “neighborhood/dive bar,” but I can assure you this place should be on your list. It is not a “dive,” but has the demeanor of one: VERY diverse crowd, lgbtq+, all ages, friendly staff, friendly clientele, zero attitude, and strong drinks. I didn’t start looking around until after about 30 minutes here. It has the feel and look of a dive bar, but is incredibly well-designed. It’s a low-key-chic neighborhood bar with really impressive space and architecture that you wouldn’t predict from the outside. Bathrooms were cleaner than most bars at home with appropriate gendering and locks on doors, all genders and cultures clearly welcomed. Please give Sparky’s your business. They deliver in a capacity that’s become the pride of a dying breed...
Read moreThis place is very fun especially after 11:30 pm on weekends starting Friday but when I went early around 8:30 pm there is this short haired Hispanic lady named Mimi who can come across as sour or in a bad mood, I sat on the stool and then she literally just looked at me and I ordered drink and all I ordered was a Dos X and gave her 5 dollar bill and and then gave her a three dollar tip and didn’t even say thank you she just took the money and didn’t even look at me. Normally bartenders are very appreciative they might even do a sign language kind of gesture if they have a mask on obviously or you can tell by their acknowledgment but at the same time she was just very sour and seems like she had a bad attitude. But overall the club is very nice and it is a nice bar and there’s even a very nice wine bar as well and the other bartenders for sure are very sweet very attentive and...
