My daughter has celiac (think gluten allergy) so she has to have a strictly gluten free diet including no cross contamination. From a celiac safety standpoint this place was excellent. Server asked if we had any allergies and options are clearly marked GF on the menu and some additional items can be made GF simply by removing bread or whatever gluten component. On the downside, the steaks were quite salty and overcooked. Out of three filets that we ordered, one was perfect, one was salty AND overcooked, and the third was overly salty (they did comp one of the steaks for us). We did order a few other dishes that were delicious. We had the charred watermelon and roasted bone marrow for appetizers. Both were excellent but the bone marrow was quite a small portion. I overheard the table next to me who said the bones came out without the marrow, found that interesting. The GF crispy potatoes were amazing, the poblano mac & cheese was okay and then the crème brûlée and bread pudding were fantastic. One thing that would really add to their menu is if they could get some gluten free pasta and be able to make just one or two GF pasta dishes. The lasagne was okay and the scallops were delicious but pretty outrageously priced at $64 for only THREE! The part that left a bad taste in my mouth though was that I had a $80 gift card from Open Table and they wouldn’t honor it because they had some excuse about how they’d recently been bought by some company so it’s not going through. It just seemed like an excuse to not offer the discount. Subsequently I had to go through the hassle of reaching out to opentable to get my points reinstated so I can redeem elsewhere. So that...
Read moreNot fond of recent changes! Boiler House used to be one of my favorite spots in SA for a perfect drink and a delicious steak, my husband and I even came here to celebrate Valentine's Day and had an exquisite dinner. So when it came to send off our son back to college, I thought we'd give him a treat and a nice steak dinner at the Pearl at one of our favorite spots.
Unfortunately they have made changes to the menu. My favorite dish (wedge salad with steak skewer) is no longer on the menu, no more whipped potatoes, along with changes to the steaks served. We ordered our usual drink that we love here - the Old Fashioned and it came with regular ice instead of the standard ice block! The Bavette steaks seemed like a cheap cut of meat and the taste was basic. My ($8 additional) "peppered bacon" for my wedge salad were 3 very basic bacon strips. They also randomly served us something we didn't order without telling us what it was, it looked like cat food and didn't taste much better than I'd imagine cat food tasting.
The good: the fries were great and the white russian crème brûlée was absolutely delicious. But sadly everything else felt like something we would get at Applebee's but for a LOT cheaper. A $200 dinner for 3 in San Antonio should be way better than this.
I went home so disappointed I literally Googled and found out they changed ownership earlier this summer. Whatever the new owners think they are doing is not working. Go back to what worked and what made this place great. I can not recommend this place any longer to out of town guests and will likely not be back unless I hear it...

Located in the Pearl, this place gets busy during holidays and peak times. So make a reservation! You can dress pretty casually. The restaurant atmosphere is lively and welcoming.
As said earlier, the menu items were very intriguing to me. There are quite a few dishes that look interesting and worth trying. I got the bacon wrapped quail poppers for my appetizer and it was one of the best things I've had in my life. The meat was so tender and juicy that I immediately told my girlfriend that these need to be on the menu for the wedding. For my main, I got the smoked salmon Benedict. This is where I had an issue. When I cut into the egg, the yolk did not flow out. In fact, it was so overcooked that I looked like a hard boiled egg. So I told the waiter (who seemed confused) but sent it back. A few moments later, my dish comes back out. They basically cracked some yolk for me on the dish and mixed everything. To me, this was careless because I expected to get new eggs. But instead, I got an ugly mess. Didn't expect this from a luxurious restaurant.
Pricing is fair but on the higher side. Appetizers are around $15. And brunch mains are around $20. If the mains were anywhere as good as the appetizer, I would be glad to pay these prices. However at $19 for salmon Benedict, it left way more to be desired.
Overall, great start but terrible finish to my meal. I hope they work on their consistency and how they handle food being sent back to...
