I like a soup and sandwich place. The Filling Station fits the bill well, with the kicker being the homemade bread. Just about everything here is homemade, from the soups to the pizza. It's a lot of simple things, but it makes the place stand out, making it appropriate that it exists on the fringe of Southtown.
My visit to The Filling Station was limited. I had the turkey habanero sandwich - a fairly simple turkey sandwich that was made better with the garlic habanero aioli that provided a spicy flavorful kick. The homemade roll was the best part. It was almost like a pretzel bread, and it's something that sets the restaurant apart from other sandwich joints.
I grabbed the soup of the day as a side - the creamy poblano. It was more poblano-y than others I've had, which was an advantage. It was almost like a cream of broccoli.
The meal wasn't earth-shattering, but it didn't need to be. With freshly-made ingredients in a kitschy exterior (it's hard to believe that it's run entirely by one dude behind the counter, until you actually enter the place), but The Filling Station was a great place to grab a sandwich right outside the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreVery rude. Bf and I were looking for something new to try downtown. As we passed this place we saw the cafe sign on the side. When I pulled up the hours it stated it was closed. But the āfrontā said open (I learned the Station Cafe was unrelated to what I now know it as The Filling Station Tap Room). With that slight confusion, before permanently parking, we temporarily pulled over so I can get down and verify if they were open. I didnāt make it to the door⦠I barely made it a few feet from my car when a guy came out stood right outside the front of their business yelling at me to move my car and I canāt park there. I tried to explain I had a quick question, but he proceeded to continue to yell at me that I needed to move.
Ok if we canāt āparkā there, thatās ok we will move our car but we werenāt permanently parked and we were not blocking traffic. There was no need to react that way. Thereās a better way to talk to people and that wasnāt it. Be more courteous because no one should be talked to⦠yelled at like that.
Not a good way to get...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI went here at 10pm and found there was no sign of food. The description on the web had me thinking this place was open until midnight and a place to get a bite. It was open but only selling beer. There is a very small footprint to this place so I would Have to assume that there is not a dough hook and a well stocked walk in refrigerator... They could have great quality craft sandwiches at lunch and dinner, the other reviews say so. But there is no way this is a fantastic pizza place. I went to the food trucks around the corner and bought a nice little pizza there. It was nice but not fantastic. I'm only writing this review because many will be like me and they will search for pizza and see this 5 star rated pizza listing open till...
