I got large loaded fries and a double smash burger. For the price, the total amount of food wasn’t bad, I think it was $20 or so before tip. Especially when taking into consideration the quality of the food. And the quality is quite good.
There are 3 things that make this smash burger stand out. First is the bun. I make a lot of homemade burgers, all with homemade buns rather than store bought. These buns definitely taste fresh. They are very buttery and rich, which I love on a burger. They were also thick enough to contain all the mess. Second is the meat. The meat is CRISPY and delicious, which is why people love smash burgers. But unlike most smash burgers I’ve had, the meat isn’t TOO thin. It still has some volume to it, which I think makes each bite feel more fullfilling. Lastly, THEIR SPREAD. I got the burger that comes with the chipotle spread. It was rich with a bit of spice. I think they can stand to make the spread a bit spicier, but the jalapeños helped with that. Maybe an extra spicy version would be cool. Regardless, the spread was delicious. The burger came smothered in it, and I think it really defines the burger taste. I wanna return just to try all of their spreads on a burger, I think they’d all taste very distinct.
Their loaded fries are the star imo. For one, you get a pretty hefty portion for about $8. Definitely more food than you get with the burger, but that’s probably expected. I got them with the original spread. If you like in and out animal style fries, get the original spread. It’s got the tangy goodness that animal style has, but it’s just so much more flavorful. The fries are also crispy, not the soft sogginess of in and out fries. Some of the best fries I’ve had in San Diego. I need these up near clairemont.
I don’t really buy this “anti seed oil” craze everyone’s on, but if you do you’ll be happy to know that everything here is seed oil free. Personally, if you’re worried about which fat source is the healthiest to fry your food in, I fear you’ve lost the plot. That being said, I gotta admit that it does produce some pretty delicious...
Read moreI came here because I saw it on Instagram and it looked amazing. I show up, the line is out of the door. No problem, there busy so must be great! Waited a long time in line. Got up to the front and the lady was not friendly whatsoever. Very short and curt in her responses and did not want to make more strawberry lemonade for me. They ran out in the cooler. She got my name wrong so my order was sitting there for a long time before I walked up and asked where my order was. So I get my order after waiting in line and waiting for my food for an hour- my food was cold. Yes that can be partially my fault but I said my name clearly. I should’ve had her repeat it back to me. So my $50 order was cold. I bought a lemonade and finished it before my meal, so I walked up and asked for a water cup so I could finish my meal. She then proceeded to tell me they don’t give out water, I had to purchase one. So I had to get back in the line all the way out of the door to buy a water. First of all- I don’t even think that is legal in the state of California. If you sell food, you have to provide water. The ordering process is idiotic. I know bc many people were having problems and I overheard it with everyone’s order. I will say the burger even cold had good taste. And the chocolate shake is made with actual chocolate ice cream. The burger was 7/10 but with everything it still out this place at a 3/10 overall. Very bummed about it bc this place has potential. I will not be returning and telling everyone about my experience. I normally don’t leave reviews but I was not happy with my experience at this place and feel I need to...
Read moreI enjoyed a nice double Original Burger which came with hormone free beef, cheese, grilled onions, pickles, and the original spread or sauce for $11.99 plus tax. The burger came on a hybrid brioche and potato bun.
The burger was pretty good. The two patties were flavorful and offered that quality beef flavor that lingers on the palate. The cheese was well melted and grilled onions tasted great. I thought the bun was okay. It tasted good, but had an interesting spongy texture that was a little off. Nevertheless, it was a very good burger.
The service at the counter was very upbeat and informative regarding the operation. I learned you can build your own burger and that they use no seed oils for their fries. They use beef tallow to fry them in.
This location offers a decent amount of inside seating and a few bar stool type seating outside as well....
