When we walked up the hostess was very nice and the other waiter (male) were so very nice and hospitable! The music was loud and people were having a great time. Josie S was our server and after she came to the table everything went south! She placed the chips and salsa on the table left the menus and walked away. The chips were old and the salsa was cold. She came back to the table and would not talk to me only spoke to my husband. Fine. We ordered our drinks and this chick left the building. Another man had to bring our drinks. She comes back up, again only looking at my husband, and asked what he would like. We ordered and again this girl is no where to be found. Again another man brought our food. I ordered 2 chicken enchiladas no red sauce and my husband got the three amigos burrito with ceviche. The burrito was delicious but the enchiladas were bland and actually tasted like tamales. It was gross. She didn’t come back to the table and my husband had to get up and ask for a refill of the soda. She comes back after about 30 mins and I asked for the check. Now here is where she went from 18% tip off a $75.00 bill. The waiter, the nice one by the door, was taking an order from the person behind us. He explained every dish and told her the salsa can come mild if she wants. He told her how large the portions were and had a fabulous demeanor. I was so sad. It was as if this chick couldn’t have been bothered to help us! We got stuck with the worst waitress! She left more than twice. How do we know? We saw her take off running (we were sitting in front of the window.) So strange! I live in Arizona and have had so much genuine Hispanic food it’s probably ridiculous. Never once have I tasted bland enchiladas. Not even from the more “fast food” type of places! Never once have I been treated so poorly! The ceviche was good. My husband’s burrito was delicious. One good thing about the enchiladas, is that it had a lot of shredded chicken in it. If you go make sure you don’t get this waitress! Brown straight hair, skinny, tall-ish, and a nice looking face. She even rolled here eye’s several times and sat at the bar laughing and joking. It was odd. Cody’s was really good if you’re looking for a place. Best food fantastic service and they got my full tip! I tip very well all the time. I honestly felt like giving her $ 0.50 but my husband said she didn’t even deserve that. If I go again, I will make sure I get the guy waiter! I wish I knew his name! So dang nice! Thank you to the staff that did her job for her while she was gallivanting around somewhere else. She made this place look so bad...
Read moreWe were initially greeted and seated promptly, which gave us a good first impression. I ordered the Carne Asada Taco plate and my daughter ordered the ceviche. The tacos and the salsa for the chips were the highlights—flavorful and well-prepared.
Unfortunately, everything else was a letdown. My daughter’s ceviche was not what we expected—it resembled a watered-down cocktail with hardly any ingredients beyond the shrimp. There were no signs of the usual fresh cilantro, tomatoes, onions, or vibrant citrus flavor you’d expect. It lacked seasoning and tasted more like soupy tomato water. The rice and beans were also flavorless.
After the food arrived, our server essentially disappeared, and we weren’t checked on again. Since we had plans to go snorkeling, we decided to just eat what we could and move on.
When I eventually gave feedback to another staff member (a man with a bun, another server), I made it clear that I wasn't looking for a free meal—just offering honest feedback. Unfortunately, he responded defensively, saying things like, “Looks like you ate it all,” and “I’m not the cook.” When I tried to explain further, he brushed it off by saying “This is La Jolla,” implying low expectations were somehow justified.
The defensiveness and dismissive attitude were incredibly disappointing. Good food can’t make up for poor customer service, especially when constructive feedback is met with sarcasm instead of professionalism. Sadly, I wouldn’t return or recommend this place based on...
Read moreMargarita drinkers, beware! You’re better off driving to Mexico than coming here on a weeknight.

I’ve been here twice. The food is good, but the drinks were horrible and throughly disappointing this second time. The bartender (who was new) made a bland, watery, flavorless frozen margarita and served in the wrong type of glass. She made a similarly flavorless mojito, without actually muddling the mint.
If I’ve had better margaritas on the east coast, and I’m getting such a horrible one just a stone’s throw away from Mexico, something is gravely wrong. If I can tell from the first sip of my drink that your bartender is new, something is wrong.
To boot, I saw the bartender make a number of rookie mistakes, such as using potentially warm glasses from the dishwasher, banging those same glasses against the bar to separate them (glass shards, anyone?), and pouring the mixer into the glass before adding the hard alcohol. I honestly don’t think she’s a real bartender.
I must admit that our waitress was an absolute sweetheart and did everything possible to correct the situation. She comped our drinks, and was overall genuine and attentive.
However, if this place actually hired such an obviously unskilled bartender, they’re either grossly negligent or don’t care about their customers. I’m borderline insulted that the restaurant thought this was an acceptable level of service. I’m sympathetic to newbies in the hospitality industry, but this...
