Okay so I hit up Nico's today. Never been, and I always like the simple local catch type seafood restaurants. What I didn't expect was to roll up on the place and have everything outside. That wasn't a huge issue except I wasn't dressed warm enough. But nonetheless, I venture to get some good fish. They specialize in local catch, supposedly things they catch themselves. They're all dressed with fishing boots, which makes it feel authentic but I wanted to question to be honest. Did you get off the boat today? At any rate, it's part of the ambience and it was straightforward. A few different ways to prepare, all are Mexican style, burritos , tacos, and a plate. I chose the plate. It's essentially the same ingredients but on a plate instead a tortilla with rice. They had grouper, ahi, yellowtail, and sea bass. Everything was sold out but the sea bass. I happen to like sea bass, so while grouper would have been nice, sea bass it was. As noted because it's an outdoor venue, it's very unassuming. When my plate arrived? It was a paper plate with plastic silverware. But it looked fresh and yummy. First bite of fish, good clean, simple flavors, I think I'll like this. Second bite this time with some of their aioli sauce, even better. On the plate was black beans, white rice, fresh pico de gallo, and some avocado slices. Slices. I began to mix all that up and eat it with pieces of fish. Damn this is good. Three or four bites in, I just let go and started pounding. Simple clean fish simply presented, just good old style side-of-the-road grilled local catch. I actually love this kind of seafood. I'd rather hit it then the expensive pretentious seafood restaurants down the street. Support the local guy, it's always fresh, and you know the focus is the fish. My telltale of a recommendation review, when I go again? Absolutely. I may go tomorrow. 🤣

My family and I are obsessed with Nico’s. When they first started doing pop ups around north county, I instantly fell in love with the concept. They serve fresh fish caught by either Nico himself or other local fisherman. You really can’t go wrong with that. But what’s truly amazing is the whole package-poke, fish tacos, fish plates, burritos-it is all so flavorful! The fish is fresh and delicious but all the ingredients together make it the best. They use pickled onions, fresh salsa (pico de gallo), avo, blue tortillas for the tacos, and an amazing lilys sauce. We’ve had a lot of fish tacos, burritos, and poke from all over San Diego and Hawaii and I’d say Nico’s is our favorite. My daughter devours the fish plate, tacos, and burrito but doesn’t like similar dishes from other places. I follow their instagram to see where they will be popping up each week. When they go to Baba and crackheads we grab wine or beer and chill at the tables outside. Nico’s just has the best food around with great prices and we’ve always enjoyed chilling outside wherever they pop up.

Best poke in San Diego! The poke bowl was well seasoned with a lot of flavor. The Tuna they pick at this restaurant is perfection, shiny, deep red, all the way to the texture. I had to ask the owner how do they find the fish to be so delicious. So they basically go out and find their own fish so they don't buy it of a vendor, or another source and from years of experience he can tell which fish is the best/most flavorful. I really appreciated how they selects the best fish out there they clearly care about the quality of their product. Their customer service was great everyone was very polite. The place is very clean, modern and great prices . I'm excited to go back and try other stuff on the menu.

We have been buying fish from Nico and his fisherman for well over a year. I found his beautiful page on Instagram. My husband would pick up fish that was from Ocean to plate at the Shanty. We couldn’t wait for Nico to open up a brick and mortar store! And he finally did! We’ve been there twice. Once my husband, Larry and I sat down and had the most delicious poke bowl that was so fresh and made with his special habanero sauce. The next time my daughter picked up black cod fish that Nico filleted in front of her. She was a little hungry so she sampled some ceviche that she loved. We always send Nico pictures of our creations. This last time we made black cod livornese. It melted in our mouths. By the way, our daughter and her fiancé have joined us for Thursday night fish right from the beginning. We all are so pleased that he opened a store in Pacific Beach. Nico carries an assortment of fish. We’ve had the most yummy delicious shrimp, swordfish, steak, Ahi tuna grade, Scottish salmon, Seabass, cod, whatever the fresh catch is for the day…. We have been more than pleased at the high-quality as well as Nico‘s friendly, warm and caring manner. We highly recommend you’re going to Nico’s on Emerald Street in Pacific Beach. You will absolutely love it!!!!!! Congratulations Nico!!!!!!! Arden and...

Nico's Fish Market located within the new restaurant offers a large variety of fish, shrimp, oysters, etc. fresh the ocean! We have been buying fresh fish weekly from Nico for over a year and it is always super fresh and delicious. He is extremely knowledgeable about the source of each product he sells and can tell you when it was caught, the name of the boat and the fishermen, and the manner in which it was caught (hook and line, etc.) Now, his fresh fish counter will be available to us 7 days per week and that gives us even more opportunity to eat healthily. We just visited last Sunday and bought huge U 15 shrimp, swordfish, and Baqueta. All were better than in a restaurant (that is always the case though). Actually, since we started buying fish from Nico it is difficult to order fish or shrimp at a restaurant because it just never compares!! Nico's is a short block from the Pacific ocean so it makes a lovely day to have a meal in his restaurant, take a stroll along the beach, and take home some fresh fish for another meal later on. Plus, there are outdoor tables so it is dog...
