Honestly, I never leave any reviews of anywhere because maybe I'm just lazy or maybe the experience wasn't the best or memorable. Ramen Ryoma definitely was. My girlfriend and I aren't from here and live in the Phoenix area in AZ, which a lot of food places are open past 10 pm. A lot of places in this area of San Diego aren't, which is okay! We just didn't think about it. It was also her 25th birthday and we both wanted to end the night on a great note by going out. When we saw this little Ramen spot was open, we obviously went inside because 1 it sounded great and 2 it was our only choice. We walked in last minute 15 minutes before they closed at 10:30 but Agustin, a very welcoming gentleman greeted us and sat us with no issues. He was very attentive and understanding of our situation, as well was the kitchen. Usually when ANYONE shows up last minute before closing time at a restaurant, it's very annoying and not great etiquette so we almost thought of leaving but they were just so welcoming so we accepted. Thank god we did, because Agustin's kindness and empathy really showed through his hard work and attentiveness towards us. As if it couldn't be any better of an experience, I told the head chef that it was my girl's birthday, which she felt bad about since it was closing time. This was the peak moment of the entire experience and embodied was all about, because the whole kitchen staff put on party hats, had toy trumpets, and lit a candle on some mochi ice cream while singing happy birthday to her. It was so unexpected that my girlfriend was trying not to cry and it really made our night, especially hers. So if anyone is ever around pacific beach and they see this as any old ramen spot, it's not. It's an experience that exceeds all expectations through great food, conversation, and kindness. Thank you Agustin and thank you...
Read moreWe only came here because the place next door wasn't offering dine-in service. This place had outdoor seating and I am so happy that we ended up here!!
Dining was on the patio and we were comfortably distanced from other parties. Staff wore masks and diners did too, until they ate of course. We scanned a QR code for the menu, which seems like a trend at the places we went to. Staff was friendly and attentive.
I ordered the jalapeno poppers and OMG they were delicious. My mouth is watering thinking about these! The jalapenos were a good size. They come stuffed with crab and spicy tuna and are deep fried in tempura batter. I think there were 4 pieces and I was sad when I finished them all. They are perfect!! Friends I was with had a taste, and they thought they were spicy so I guess you should like spicy food, but they were perfect to me. I also had the Salmon loves Lemon roll. This roll was tasty, refreshing and so freaking good! The roll came stuffed with salmon or crab (not sure), a slice of salmon on top, and lemon. This was a pretty and simple dish that I cannot forget. YUM. I also ordered the spicy tuna roll that was good. These were spicy. Overall, my experience at this restaurant was EXCELLENT. I will definitely go back and tell my friends about it. You should definitely check this place out. Cheers to happy...
Read moreTL;DR: The 'Killer Spicy Ramen' is amazing. Cool place, fun servers.
Went here for lunch today, just a few days after they opened the PB location. Got there a few minutes before their noon opening and waited outside with half-a-dozen others who were eager to get in. Our server was very friendly and enthusiastic about the menu.
I got the 'Killer Spicy Ramen' with the miso base and my gf got the veggie ramen. I loved it. Next time I'll order without the included bean sprouts as I find the crunch of the sprouts distracts from the superior texture of the noodles. There is also a regular spicy ramen that I would recommend unless you are the type to add chili peppers to everything. These are a comfortable 9/10.
Gf loved hers too, but would like to see more spicy vegetarian options. They provided her with chili oil and flakes to make hers spicy, but it would be nice to have the spice infused with the ramen from the get-go.
Great location near the beach and plenty of other restaurants and bars. Parking during the weekday is easy on Garnet Ave, and there are a few public pay lots nearby (across the street next to Denny's and a few dozen yards east down Garnett) for nights...
