Maybe I just had one of those experiences🤷‍♀️ Went in, ordered, it took us 30 minutes to receive our food; I also timed the people next to us, taking them 25 minutes to get their food as well, during a no rush/ not full hour. Went to the bathroom and peeked into the kitchen, and they were most definitely not understaffed. There was also an individual who came from UberEats? Ordered online? Said his meal was 35 minutes late for pickup. I'm an understanding person, so I was like Maybe they're having a bad day. My friend ordered a salad, got chicken tenders, cool the negatives keep piling on. Their soda machine was "out of service" which didn't dispense just water, it was carbonated water. They brought us water from the kitchen, 15 mins after sitting down Food was okay, underwhelming. From a place that says "real hamburgers", it was kinda overcooked / didn't ask how I wanted it cooked Was just two patties, cheese, 4 pickles and one slice of bacon, I usually imagine a burger with a tomato and lettuce but 🤷‍♀️ Chicken tenders were okay? There's a better spot across the street for chicken fingers. Salad was a salad. Atleast the staff was nice. I personally wouldn't return but you can feel free to, but the fact all the meals which were similar came at a different time, were wrong, or late makes me not want to go.

I had heard great things about The Food Box but was extremely disappointed during my visit. I should have taken the first warning signs. There was no one else in the restaurant when we arrived for lunch while other restaurants nearby were busy. The bathroom chemical fresheners could be smelled as you enter, and the floors were so sticky that one of my sandals was literally pulled off my foot as it stuck to the floor. The menu looked great with a variety of burgers, chicken sandwiches, and shakes. They serve fountain drinks and have bottled Mexican soft drinks. There is indoor and outdoor seating available. They have games to play while waiting since the food is made to order. The tables did not appear to be cleaned and were sticky as well of which we wiped down on our own. My table ordered the Spurgeon burger, one of the chicken sandwiches, fries, and onion rings. The burger and fries were okay and had a nice char. The chicken sandwich was overly greasy since the chicken seemed to be dropped straight from the fryer onto the sandwich, oil and all. The onion rings suffered the same fate with an oil slick covering the tray. When we brought up the grease issues they met with little concern, saying sorry about that and have a nice day. Instead of a feeling enjoyment our group was left with nauseum.

My family was tired of having Mexican food so we decided on burgers and I found this place had good ratings so I decided to give it a shot. The restaurant was very clean and looked very nice from the inside. There was no wait to order which was nice. All the burgers had pictures and descriptions which made them all sound very appealing and after careful deliberation I settled on The King James. It was by far the best burger I have had in years and quite possibly my whole life. The ingredients all tasted fresh and delicious. Apple and ginger sound like they wouldn't go together on a burger but they added great flavor. The fries were also very good. My wife had the McArthur and that chicken sandwich was also delicious. The individual that took our order was incredibly nice and welcoming. He told us about the restaurant's backstory and current projects which just added to the overall experience. The only knock on this place was that it is so far away from where I live but this will be my new go to burger spot whenever I'm in San Diego. If you are looking for burgers in San Diego, look no further. You will not be disappointed.
