Even though I am aware my review will slightly ruin almost perfect score of this place, I do have to share my bad experience.
Firstly, my coffee was good but the pastry was a bit dry and didn't seem too fresh, but it was OK. The place was clean and cozy.
Secondly, I have to say you will always have customers who don't like some of the ingredients in your sandwiches. It happens and that doesn't mean your products are bad, but people can be allergic to some ingredients or just don't like them. What happened to us was that we ordered a plain sandwich without any sauce and received it with mustard/mayo/some kind of sauce. We returned it and said that we will pay for another one without the sauce. That's where our bad experience started - the person who made the sandwich and the owner just couldn't give up. Firstly they told us that's not mustard in the sandwich. We still didn't want the sauce as we said 'no sauce please'. Then they said they will just wipe the sauce from the sandwich. After we refused, the owner came out with the spoon of that sauce for me to try, just not giving up. It was a mayo based sauce and I didn't like it. And this was very creepy. After a lot of back and forwards they made us another sandwich without any sauce but giving us a really hard time. We felt attacked and ashamed for not wanting their perfect sauce. This is not really how you treat customers.
Edit: after a nice response from the owner I've decided to change my...
Read moreThis place is near a lot of homeless people but what is worse is that they have their windows and doors wide open for pigeons and homeless people to come in. Bathroom was gross with many flies inside. The Ultimate Sandwich was good, but not worth the gross experience. There is a trash bin near the terrace and table where customers are eating, and the homeless people walk by to dig food. The owner just watched that happen, chitchatting with a friend. Then pigeons starting coming near the door, then his friend noticed and still the owner did not do anything. Then, a homeless person actually came inside the cafe, inches away from customers and eventually the owner addressed the homeless person, but it took a while. I was disgusted and spat my food back out, and tossed it. Waste of $20 on a sandwich. The homeless person went outside of the cafe, saw the trash bin and went straight to the bin (again the bin is located inches away from where customers eat), then the person went to the customers eating outside. The owner just stood and watched, unsure what to do. The customers left. I’m from NYC and never have I ever seen a homeless person walk into a restaurant like that and stay that close to customers, and an owner who seems aware of the situation but is not addressing it. Ruined my day completely. Not worth the flies/trash/homeless people in and...
Read moreA small, sundry coffee breakfast café-ita that delivers a wallop of taste and freshness. I thought SEO falsified the 5 stars. I dare say, 5 stars is accurate.
I am a visitor in the city. I arrived at the airport and wanted to save on breakfast. I walked to the cafe from civic center. No, not to eat here. To visit someone at the hospital across the street. After the long walk through seedy Gotham City, my appetite was roaring. I ordered the English breakfast sandwich with bacon and was completely pleased. I was sure it was going to be similar to McDee's because can you really make an English muffin that good?! Well, perhaps it was the maple sauce and the perfectly toasted skilled conniseurists. I would be remissed if I did not give a double handclap, high five and double snap to the peanut butter mocha latte with a splash of vanilla.
