I was very excited to try the food at La Travesia based on their unique menu and positive reviews, however the burrito I got served was simply very disappointing.
Commenting on the positives first, the staff was very nice, the inside of the restaurant was clean, and the menu had items not normally offered within SF. I can see that most people that have liked the food have gotten more of the traditional items and dined in, but I can’t comment on that experience, only on what I was given for takeout.
I have to say the “carne asada” super burrito left a lot to be desired to put it nicely. To pay nearly $17 to get served pretty much rice, shredded lettuce (not sure why it even has lettuce), wrapped around a tortilla is simply unfair. I have never had a burrito this light on ingredients, there was maybe 5 cubes of steak throughout the entire thing. Even the beans, crema and cheese are scarce, if there at all? There was simply nothing good I can say about this item.
I’m honestly shocked that I got served this from a new restaurant. My rule for restaurants is that the owner and chef should always only serve food that they themselves would be happy to eat and pay for, and I don’t think this was applied to my pretty much rice and lettuce burrito. You can take a look yourself and see that I am not exaggerating with my comments.
Again, many have liked the other food items and enjoyed dining in, but I can only comment on what I was given. Unfortunately with this experience as my first meal here, I can’t come back here to try anything else or recommend...

This place is a gem! From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere sets the tone—vibrant colors, warm lighting, and upbeat music that makes you feel like you’re on vacation. The staff is super friendly and welcoming, and the service was quick and attentive.
Now the food—absolutely delicious! Every dish was bursting with flavor. The tacos were perfectly seasoned, the guacamole was fresh and zesty, and the mac and cheese for my baby .Next level. You can tell everything is made with care and authentic ingredients. They were so sweet to offer my toddler a churro for free.

Let me just say this— the carne asada is probably the best I’ve ever had in my life. Perfectly cooked, seasoned just right, and melt-in-your-mouth tender. I’ve tried carne asada all over California and Mexico, and nothing compares to this.
