“What’s the second best place to eat in San Francisco?” I asked the Texan with a good palate. I’ve already tried that place. “What’s the third best place to eat in SF?”
“Hmmm,” he pondered. “There’s a little deli around here that has really good meats.”
I nodded, open to the suggestion.
“They have a really good sandwich that I haven’t seen many other places.” he continued with his hands holding an imaginary sandwich. “Muffuletta has a big bread—it was huge!—with salami and maybe some other Italian meats. And it has an olive salad on it. It just tastes great,” he nodded with finality.
I wanted to have a simple visit, so I opted for no review and left my phone in my pocket.
When we got back to the office, it tasted so good that I had to grab my phone for a picture. (Additional photos are from a subsequent visit.)
I wanted to commend my colleague for another good suggestion. I started speaking before my thoughts were fully formed. “This is the best meat I have had…” I paused to think, “in memory!”
I shook my head in disbelief at what I had just said. My eyes were wide as I spoke again to verify the truth, “This is the best meat I might have ever tasted.”
It’s a cute little old-time feeling deli. They mostly have deli things like sandwiches from the menu or made-to-order, plus other pre-made food like various salads and entrees to reheat at home. They also have some shelf-stable items and cold beverages.
Aside from being able to understand the spoken and written language, I felt like I was in Italy. Looks like they have a lot of products imported from Italy.
It’s kind of crowded, especially when the delivery guys push their goods through to the back, but it makes it feel more quaint.
I didn’t check the bathroom.
My mouth drools at the thought of going back.
If you choose to give a thumbs-up 👍🏽 or not, I hope you found my...
Read moreI just moved to the Marina and was excited to find this deli. However, after frequenting a few times I've decided that I will not be patronizing this establishment anymore. Here's why:
The first time I visited Lucca's, I purchased 2 containers of olives, a jar of tiny pickled peaches (at least I think that's what they are), and a hunk of cheese. I was charged $45. I went ahead an paid for it, feeling like it was quite a lot for 4 things, and so I asked for an itemized receipt. Turns out I was charged twice for everything. It was a young man who did it and he didn't seem apologetic. His co-worker (young, slightly heavyset man) apologized casually and gave me money back in cash (though it was still a little short - I had paid with credit card).
I thought maybe it was an honest mistake so I kept going back. Two times I had success, with a nice older man who I assume might be the owner or manager. So I thought, yay! I found my neighborhood deli!
The last time I went there, it was the same young man who overcharged me the first time. This time, he ran me up for a loaf of bread and a few other things. I asked him how much the bread was. He paused, and said...7.99.
This was a loaf of bread from a local maker that I know doesn't cost that much. It was a small loaf. Anyway, I just felt like this was getting ridiculous. Obviously this guy does this a lot, overcharges and pockets the cash.
So until this guy is fired or something, I am not going to go to Lucca's anymore. Too bad because it is close and...
Read moreAfter walking along the San Francisco Bay Trail to the Palace of Fine Arts, we ordered lunch online through ChowNow. The nice thing about using that site is 100% went to the restaurant not a % commission going to the food web site.
The site said it would take 30 minutes but by the time we got there after 15 minutes it was ready for pickup. They had 2 benches out front but otherwise this would be a place where you would take out food to eat elsewhere in some nearby pretty green spaces.
My wife and mother-in-law ordered the Shrimp Sandwich. It was a shrimp salad with avocado, tomatoes and mayo on sliced sourdough. They both loved their sandwiches! My mother-in/law could only eat half her sandwich as it was so filling.
Our son had the #1 Italian Combo with salami, ham, mortadella, mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomato and mild Italian peppers on a maybe a ciabatta loaf. He made a mess of it and devoured it quickly!
I had the Muffaletta with Genoa salami, mortadella, coppa, provolone cheese and muffaletta spread on a salted focaccia bun. Delicious but very salty which I loved!
We walked over to the Marina Green area for a picnic. We grabbed a seat on a bench by the water with great water views and of Alcatraz. A great spot for lunch and some ...
