The Marina District is a neighborhood located in San Francisco, California. The neighborhood sits on the site of the 1915 Panama–Pacific International Exposition, staged after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake to celebrate the reemergence of the city. Aside from the Palace of Fine Arts, all other buildings were demolished to make the current neighborhood. The northern half of the Marina is a shoreline of the San Francisco Bay, and features the Marina Green, a park adjacent to the municipal boat marina from which the neighborhood takes its name. If you don't know what the marina green is, it's basically a huge field. Nothing in it really to speak of except for a outside gym of sorts on one end. What it does have is tons of free parking and views that you can't believe! On one side is the Golden gate bridge and on the other is Alcatraz and you can even see downtown San Francisco. Great place to bring some food lay out a blanket and have a picnic or stroll along the water and watch all the wildlife. Also a great spot to bring your dog and let him run around! Just be sure to clean up after because it's the right thing to do and also, kids use it as a section of it as a soccer practice field in the afternoons.
