The location of the restaurant is in a pretty nice area. It's right next to a fancy skincare shop and in close vicinity to a lot of clothing as well. After eating at Blackwood, you might as well take advantage of the location and browse the shops if you're not in a hurry.
The interior of the restaurant is also really nice. It's very modern with lots of brown wood furnishing. The workers are super nice and friendly, always coming by to refill the water cups. Even the bathroom is fancy, with complimentary lotion for your hands!
I've heard a lot about Millionaire's Bacon in both my trips to SF. I'm personally not a big bacon fan, but after trying the Millionaire's Bacon, I can see why people wear shirts and go crazy for this stuff. I think it originated in another popular brunch restaurant in SF, Sweet Maple, and the craze just took off. The bacon is thickly cut, and coated in a sweet sauce that gives it much more taste than regular bacon. But, it's not cheap, so whatever you order it on - you can expect that dish to be pretty costly.
Everybody in my party ended up ordering a benedict. I wasn't too eager to eat asparagus and the Millionaire's Bacon, so I ordered the BW Benedict. At $15, it wasn't too bad for the quality of food that I got to eat. The Blackstone Benedict has 2 asparaguses lining the poached eggs as it rests on top of that Bacon. My dish had a pork wine sausage, mushroom, cilantro, crispy yam, and Thai chili hollandaise sauce. It definitely looked unique when it came out of the kitchen and was really tasty. I don't think I've ever tried pork wine sausage in a Benedict dish before, so it was an interesting and tasty twist on the classic Eggs Benedict. I loved how after breaking into the egg yolk, it would gently spill over onto the sausage and Ciabatta toast, making that entire bite taste truly amazing when eaten together. The sausage was slightly sweet, and with the saltiness of the egg yolk, crunchiness of the toast and the garnish, and the slightly sour/salty taste of the hollandaise sauce, it was something that wowed the taste buds. It also came with rainbow potatoes and a small salad. The salad was okay - just some greens and a vinaigrette sauce on top. The potatoes were much tastier - they were a mix of yams, potatoes, and purple potatoes, slightly fried on the outside, but still soft on the inside.
They also serve bottomless mimosas and more Thai-inspired dishes. Everybody who tried the Blackwood Benedict seemed to really like it, and another friend tried the Frisco Benedict and thought that was yummy, too.
tl;dr - Since I haven't heard any negative feedback about this place from my friends, I figured everybody liked the food. I would recommend their Egg Benedict dishes, but if you want to try more Thai-styled dishes, definitely try their stone pot! I think the only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because the price is a little more costly than I would have liked to spend for the quality of food that I received. You're also seated quite close to other dining customers, so you can pretty much hear their conversations if you really eavesdropped. If you're looking for a brunch place to eat at that offers more of a twist on their food, definitely try...
Read moreI read the reviews and it looked promising. They were also a restaurant in the Bonvoy program and I did order pad thai for take out a week before. I made a reservation for 2 at 6:30 pm the same day, Friday. We started with tuna tartare, I had been wanting to try their 1 percenter cheeseburger with millionaires bacon so I ordered that for myself and my niece ordered Pad See Yu. The server started out nice and even repeated our orders and how we liked it done. I asked for Medium temp & for millionaire bacon to be on the crispy side which I make myself. The tuna tartare was good and my niece liked her dish but the cheeseburger arrived medium well to well done. I pointed out to the server when I was able to get her attention. She did offer to re-do it but the restaurant was full on a Friday night and I was sure it was still going to be delicious however overcooked it was. I have had many burgers well done before so I kept the meal. Lo and behold, it was mushy, with absolutely no flavor or taste at all. The bacon was also mushy that after 1 bite, I pushed the entire plate aside. They were more busy by the time my niece was ready to order dessert which at same time we were able to let them know I was not going to take it home. Even to place the dessert order took longer that I asked for the check anticipating the delay. I saw they charged me for the burger and when I asked to remove it. Another older lady with glasses who may be an owner loudly scolded me for not saying anything in the beginning in front of my niece and the table next to us noticed it as well. I corrected her that I did tell the server and then the server were too busy to look our direction. No questions on what happened on our side and no apologies. Evidently she also did not ask the server as I watched her scold the server too. Then the server angrily dropped the new check on our table. I don’t know why I left a tip, I used to be a server I guess so I was a bit emphatic to the server. Will never eat there again, it was an absolutely humiliating & horrifying experience. What a start to...
Read moreMy friends and I went here for the first time today for New Year's brunch. It was quite busy, but we got seated around the time of our reservation. The server wasn't particularly attentive and had to be flagged down to take our order, but that was fine and the food started coming out at reasonable time. Unfortunately, however, only half of our table got food. After about 10 minutes without an update about the rest of our food, we flagged down our server to follow up. We were never provided an update, but food came out after another 10 minutes. By this time (20 minutes later), half of our table had already finished eating.
The food that came out late included the moco benedict and the lemon ricotta pancakes. We were disappointed, however, as the pancakes were dense and mushy, as if they were not cooked long enough. On the other hand, for the benedict, the poached eggs were overcooked and basically hard boiled, not runny at all. At this point, I was not willing to ask anything to be remade as I feared it would take another 20 minutes. When my friend went to pay (again, our server did not follow up with us), she mentioned that the eggs were not runny and the server offered to remake the eggs. I felt quite exasperated and really didn't understand why they would offer to remake just the eggs, as we were paying and getting ready to leave. And after the lackluster service, we were charged the default 20% gratuity for a party of 5.
While I get New Year's day can be busy, the service (or lack thereof) and quality of food today made this a place I would...
