Seeking a local spot for breakfast, we decided to stop here instead of Mel's across the street as we thought this looked more interesting and the reviews suggested it would be excellent. Next time we'll just go to Mel's...
We were seated within a few minutes and the server took our order almost immediately. We were able to sit for a few minutes and were able to take in the ambience of the Home Plate.
The first thing I noticed sitting on the long cushioned bench seat was that the cushions were absolutely filthy and stained. There was hair all over them and they were honestly disgusting. I've seen cleaner seats on public transit.
Looking around at the rest of the restaurant, the overall decor was okay, but it was apparent that it was rarely, if ever cleaned. The chandelier had a light out and was draped in dusty cobwebs. and the dining area in general was just relatively unclean.
The condiments and seasoning at our table looked downright vintage in how old and nasty they were. The salt and pepper looked like they'd probably never been replaced.
After a suspiciouly short wait, my partners food arrived. My partner's food came out first and about 5 minutes later my food was then served.
The first thing we noticed was that there was long hair in my partner's eggs bennedict. At this point we were both ready to just pick up and leave, but unfortunately we had an upcoming appointment and did not have enough time to get a meal somewhere else, so we decided to stick it out.
What ensued was an incredibly average and underwhelming breakfast. The breakfast potatoes were cold, soggy, and clearly just scooped out of some bin in the back and onto the plate. The french toast was tasteless and uninspired. The homemade chicken sausage patty was ordinary and nothing to brag about.
Overall this was a very disappointing breakfast and left us both regretting our choice. This meal was nowhere near worth the price.
The only redeeming quality of this place was that the service staff were all friendly and attentive, and conscious of us and the...
Read moreI went to this place because of tje great reviews online. However when I got there I got the worst experience from the start.
I'm in construction so where my work clothes. It's not dirty clothes it's just not your name brand clothing.
From. The start tje workers looked disturb that I want to dine in there.
The place was nearly empty, i'd say out of 25 tables only 2 were occupied.
I had to wait nearly 10min to get seated even after the seater was walking around just staring at me. I finally sat down on a empty table and the seater made a rude gesture and ask if I could not read English since it said "wait to be seated"
I told her yea but an empty place you seen me waiting while youw were on your phone.
She finally said follow me to be seated.
After following her she went into the back of the kitchen I stopped at the entrance and turned around puzzled because there was no tables back there so I found a table and sat down.
Then the server walked by many time with a Dusting look lile I wasn't worthy of bieng there. She didn't offer me anything to drink nor menu.
10min later the server walks by and you can't sit there. I asked why not she said because it's a4 seater tables and your only one person I said I understand what saying but all tje tables are nearly empty and no1 is waiting inline to be seated I don't understand the problem?
She replied and said all you people are difficult and obviously can't understand English. I had enough and walked across the street where I was seated quickly and they brought coffee and water to my table and welcomed me in even with my construction uniform.
Please people if you have any respect for yourself and don't want to be looked down upon because of your profession, race or class don't bring your business here. They will...
Read moreHome Plate hits a brunch home run! I will officially be adding Home Plate to my short, but sweet, rotating list of amazing SF brunch spots. Their menu has your classics and a few additions with that Bay Area flare - including crab cakes, acai bowls, and a surf & turf Benedict. If you're a pancake lover, you'll find variety a plenty here. But if you're a nooks 'n crannies person, like me, they have a waffle to fill your plate too. Something new we had to try was their croffle - a croissant pressed with a waffle maker, served with nutella, banana and berries. I love my waffles for the crispy edges, and I love croissants for their flaky, buttery, goodness. But I have to admit, the croffle fell flat for me, lacking the crispy crunch and pressed to the point of mush. The crab cakes bene, was excellent and there was no shortage of crab meat. The roast chicken is just as good, and so are the omelettes. If you want something lighter, try one of their many frittatas. Another plus that convinces my Dad to come here, is their corned beef hash. He always orders it extra crispy and they serve it to perfection. Another positive with Home Plate, their menu is large and the variety is enough to suit anyone in your party, even your vegans! Here's to hoping they keep up the great service and the good food.
Come early on weekends and...
