Don't be discouraged by the dimly lit restaurant and the graffiti tarnishing the exterior of this place, Olivo's is Tenderloin's local taste of delicious Mexican cuisine. Having lived in the Loin for nearly a year, I was surprised that despite the bevy of restaurants catering to nearly every different type of cuisine, good Mexican food was nowhere to be found.
I wandered in here the other day, desperate for some tacos done the classic way and I wasn't disappointed. You can grab 2 for $6 and they'll stuff them with delicious salsa, well cooked meat, and fresh onions for a delicious snack. Grab a burrito if you're eager for a full meal or, if you're ready to really eat, take the Carne Asada fries and you won't be disappointed. Take everything that's great about a burrito bowl and lay it over fries instead and you'll have some idea. But I want to emphasize that this place feels like the real deal; it's authentic and flavorful and the price is completely reasonable, which is why the locals are here just as much as the tourists. The wait staff is incredibly friendly and its easy to make small talk while you wait.

This is an authentic Salvadoran/Mexican spot tasty, affordable food and some beverages. It’s bare bones & and in the Tendernob area of the SF, which is a sketchy area but has some of the best food in the city. It seems most people order takeover or delivery. It doesn’t appear they offer dine-in options anymore as there’s always a sign outside saying “para llevar” aka to-go, but I’ll double check on this for accuracy .
I’m a fan of their bean & rice pupusas and complementary fermented cabbage salad called curtido. They have also yummy fried plantains. I also recommend their Salvadoran style Horchata. I look forward to try to their beef soup next time.
Their owner seems pleasant, humble, hard working and appreciative of business. If you don’t want to venture in the Tenderloin area, don’t let that stop you from trying Olivio’s, they are available for delivery on DoorDash! Highly...
Read moreBest pupusas in SF. No greasy, perfectly cooked and inside the best beans and cheese, for meat lovers the revuelta (chicharron) are the best. All my people, vegetarians and meat eaters have options in this restaurant located in the middle of Nob Hill and Tenderloin: Tendernob. Some of my Mexicans comadres transform this salvadorian food into a Mexican gordita cutting in the middle and adding chicharrón or tinga. My ex partner love scramble eggs with bacon bites. Don't be confuse with the classic American eggs and bacon. I promise you are gonna love the Olivo's style. A family business with the best service.... I highly recommend Olivos. From a Drama Latin Vegetarian King, very picky...
