Just had dinner at Meski in San Francisco, and WOW! What an experience from start to finish. From the moment you walk in, you’re welcomed with genuine warmth and hospitality. They offer a coat check right at the door, which immediately sets the tone for the elevated service that follows.
The staff is attentive, informative, and truly cares about your dining experience. They take your full order at the start and bring everything out with perfect timing, no rushed courses or awkward waits. Everything feels smooth, thoughtful, and intentional.
The food? Absolutely delicious. From the drinks and appetizers to the entrées and desserts, every bite was spot on. The oxtail pasta in particular is out of this world, rich, tender, and unforgettable.
The ambiance is calm and inviting, with music that complements the space beautifully. I even had the pleasure of meeting Chef Nelson and Owner Guma, two incredibly talented, passionate people who are clearly pouring their hearts into this place. You can feel it in every detail, both in the dining room and on the plate.
And when you compare what you pay here to other San Francisco restaurants, Meski is beyond fair, especially for the quality, care, and overall experience. It’s luxury without the pretentiousness, and value without compromise.
They’ve just launched brunch, and I’m already planning to come back with the entire family.
Coming from a family deeply rooted in the food industry, I don’t say this lightly: Meski deserves Forbes recognition and all the Michelin stars. Whether you’re looking for a refined night out or just want to eat exceptionally well, this is the place....
Read moreUnfortunately, the Ethiopian owner came off as appropriating the Habesha culture given his poor customer service. My cousins, friends and I were excited to support this business & to our surprise the owner made his way around the entire floor acknowledging/checking on his customers and oddly decided to skip our table, the only table where Ethiopians were sitting at. We didn't expect any attention but when you see that you're clearly the only group that's being purposefully disregarded, it makes you wonder is he really for the culture or just appropriating it for business?! However, he wasted no time recording us as we danced to the one cultural song the DJ played and posted us on Meski's IG story - weird flex. Funny enough, I ran into a close friend of his the same day and he told me the owner has that reputation against his cultural people visiting his restaurant.
I don't know what his response to us is all about, however, I do know that if you choose to work in the hospitality industry, it'd behoove you to treat all your customers with equal respect and gratitude for supporting. Your people make or break your success - never forget.
I will acknowledge the restaurant is beautifully decorated, the doorman was a kind gentleman, DJ Flygerian killed it on the set, and the chef was attentive and accommodating. It was just the one bad apple, the owner.
Wish the business the best as I always root for minority owned businesses but I definitely wouldn't spend anymore money at a business the owner clearly shows no interest in having his own people come...
Read moreI was hesistant to write this review as I’ve been to Meski a few times and have enjoyed the food and ambiance. However, during my most recent dining experience (on October 31), I spotted a huge rat near the kitchen and bar area. I was very frightened and quite shocked given the reputation Meski has created since opening. I was further disturbed by my subsequent conversation with the manager, who was well-aware of the pest problem. The manager shared ongoing construction nearby and work they were doing to mitigate the infiltration of pests into the restaurant. However, this does not justify why they felt it was appropriate to continue servicing individuals without properly resolving the problem. It is a huge health and safety concern, and is quite frankly distasteful seeing street rats while eating. The manager/server attempted to assuage our concerns with a complimentary dessert, which I found a bit strange and inappropriate for such a severe issue. As someone who is originally from nyc and dines frequently there, I understand the challenges of running a restaurant in a large city. However, such does not justify having pests in a restaurant and running business as usual, whether in downtown SF or not. Overall, the way that Meski handled this issue was disappointing and makes me question their ethics knowing that pests are scurrying around their dining room, and...
