I was genuinely impressed by my visit to Stookey's Club Moderne in San Francisco. This cozy and unassuming spot exudes a delightful retro charm that instantly captivated me. Notably, the venue was exceptionally clean, and its cute ambiance added to the overall appeal.
I had the pleasure of stopping by on a Sunday evening during Pride weekend. It served as the perfect starting point before heading to ACT Theater a couple of blocks away to catch the show, "Wizard of Oz." Let me tell you, Stookey's Club Moderne surpassed the theater's drink offerings by a long shot! I made a special request to the bartender for a drink featuring absinthe and egg whites, and he delivered with a delicious off-menu creation that left me wanting more. It was truly a delightful and satisfying experience.
The cocktail menu at Stookey's Club Moderne is extensive, offering an array of tempting options. Choosing just one proved to be a challenge as I found myself intrigued by multiple choices. I'm already looking forward to a return visit to sample more of their intriguing concoctions.
In addition to the impressive drinks, I was pleased to find that the cleanliness extended to the bathrooms as well. It's always a relief to encounter well-maintained facilities while out and about.
To sum it up, Stookey's Club Moderne is a hidden gem tucked away in San Francisco. With its charming retro atmosphere, impeccable cleanliness, and an enticing selection of cocktails, it's a place worth discovering. Whether you're looking for a pre-show drink or simply seeking an exceptional cocktail experience, Stookey's Club Moderne won't disappoint. I can't wait to revisit and delve further into their...
Read moreWe live nearby and used to like to come here from time to time. It's a nostalgic looking setting with pricey drinks. Lately, I've become nostalgic for the classy service that used to be and is no more at club moderne. Last time we had drinks here the bartender was unkempt and clueless how to even make the drinks, making one 90% liquor and another 90+% mix. I think he was stoned. At least he was nice, though so that was something. Tonight we went here and the bartender acted unfriendly and socially tone deaf. I've had the same vaccination card used all over this town but for some reason she was dissatisfied with the quality of the paper the hospital used the day they vaxxed me and also seemed to have a bias against the vaccine brand my doctor chose for me. She practically accused me of having falsified the thing with a copy machine and asked for an online registration as more proof. She was also attempting to investigate the location at which the alleged vaccination event occurred. She seemed to think her real calling was as a double agent for the flippen Gestapo or something. We walked away, of course. I don't know who hires these people anymore but the the place is now ruined for us and...
Read moreTerrible exterior and silly name, but great mixed drinks and atmosphere. I avoided going here for at least a year because the outside looks like a kids attempt at painting a zebra. Deceptively, that zebra is the best hidden gem in The City, housing an unpretentious, neat, and well lit bar serving classic drinks at several price points. But this isn't a shitstained PBR and dollar shot bar. This is the big leagues of big city mixology. Although you can get shots of Polish vodka kept chilled in a freezer.
If you're indecisive or new to mixed cocktails, the very knowledgeable bartenders help you explore the classics or something new based on a few easy questions. The beer options are limited, but local and well curated. The menu has variety, the bathroom is clean, there are little nooks and crannys for quiet conversation, the music matches the decor creating an Old School atmosphere and isn't blaring,
They're really into quality ingredients executed exactly, so this not the bar to order an Alabama slammer shot, a Hanky Panky, or a TGIF Mudslide, but I suspect they'll make it anyway without judgement. And make it well. Like they know how to muddle and shake.
Great. A+. Wish I could go...
