I usually do not leave reviews, much less bad reviews since I have family in the restaurant business but I could not let this slide.
First off, you don’t know where to go to access the upstairs (no signage). We had to ask the hostesses for the restaurant downstairs (they have the same owner) and they walked us upstairs. The waiter was also tending bar and was overwhelmed and rushing a bit. No waters, and didnt ask if we wanted another round of drinks until we were well passed done.
Their menu seemed to have nice options, Puerto Rican and Latin Fusion along with pizzas and nu-Italian which is fine. I order the “corned beef empanadas” which is strange because corned beef is a very niche snack food for the puerto rican pallet. I am assuming they can’t afford beef, why not offer beef, chicken or shrimp? Some very lackluster “sauce” drizzled on the bottom which was definitely a sweet sirarcha not home made. You serve empanadadillas with mayo-ketchup on the side.
For entrees I ordered what was advertised as a “brick oven pizza” and the crust was definitely pre frozen from Sysco, US Foods or another large food distributer. If you truly have a brick oven, anyone that knows anything about food knows that you use double zero flour. The pizza tasted like Red Baron frozen pizza, I could barely stomach a slice and a half. My girlfriend ordered chicken alfredo pasta. The sauce was jarred, and the chicken was boiled none of it tasted fresh.
The overall sentiment was that this place was doing us a favor which is laughable. If you can’t afford fresh quality ingredients fhen you need to look at your financials and adjust your margins. Move elsewhwre if you can’t pay rent on the Condado strip and provide fresh high quality ingredients.
Disclaimer- I’m also pretty sure the ham or the empanadas gave me food poisoning which means they have a refrigeration issue. I would’ve rather eaten at McDonalds and would also recommend that to anyone considering this tourist trap. As a native Puerto Rican this is an insult to Puerto Rican gastronomy. Go to the western side of the island (Aguadilla, Aguada, Rincon) better food and they atleast pretend to appreciate...
Read moreTourist trap!!! I saw lots of compliments recommending this place and walked in for dinner. Seems like the management and service here was a mess and they tried every trick in the book to charge more for tourists, so you need to be very careful. We asked for regular water but the waitress brought us expensive bottle of spring water, which costs $3 per bottle later when we found on the bill. We emphasized that we just need regular/tap water and the waitress unwillingly switched to regular water because it's free. The waitress even didn't bring us small plates to share appetizers. When we ordered, there was another waitress took the order, who was not our waitress and very weird. She said they have the famous dish Mofongo but it's not on the menu due to the fact that sometimes they have it sometimes they don't. How ridiculous it is that they self-identify as "Puerto Rico" restaurant but sometimes they don't have the most famous dish Mofongo and even does not have a clear price marked on the menu. I ordered the country style rice for 1 with ribs and the waitress didn't tell us that I have to order for 2 in order to have the rib and placed the order for 2, which I found out later when I paid the bill. The waitress got self-awareness and voluntarily waived the tip at the end. The only reason that I didn't give a 1-star was that the chef cooked good food. Rib was delicious and big portion. Would never come back to this place again and won't recommend to...
Read moreI came here to eat with my family, my wife has a very serious allergy to onions. When our food arrived I tasted it for her and there were onions everywhere. I tried to call our server over who was too busy chatting with other servers to come address the issue. I asked if I could speak to the manager. The manager came by and said with very little regard that he was sorry for the inconvenience. I told him that I was a physician as well as my wife and that the allergy was actually deadly and that their mistake was potentially fatal. I said this as someone who used to be a server years ago and understands that food safety is important. I never raised my voice and the manager started yelling at me. I didn’t realize that the manager was the one who was too busy flirting with our waitress to allow her to come over to see us. It is clear to me that the manager of this establishment does not care about the safety of his patrons. He said “I don’t care about titles“. This was not about titles this was about a manager who does not care about the safety of the people who dine in his establishment. Furthermore this individual was aggressive and was trying to become physically confrontational. It’s clear he has an inferiority complex about his position in life. I cannot recommend this establishment until management realizes that the person who is running their establishment does not care about the...
