⛩⛩⛩ BEST SUSHI WINNER! Excellent choice for sushi 🍣 in the Miramar neighborhood of San Juan. Osaka offers a huge menu with many well-priced special “combination platters” with soup or salad and a main course with rice. Nice calm setting here too. It’s relaxing. 🌸 Most Chinese restaurants on the island also serve Japanese food too, it’s just an accepted thing in Puerto Rico. At Osaka, they do them both well. Try any of their soups or noodle dishes or their Bento 🍱 box.
I was a food writer in NYC and this is where I started to go once my favorite sushi spot in Viejo San Juan had closed. This place is always clean, their sushi is ALWAYS FRESH! It’s also close to the two of the best food markets in the area (“La Hacienda” and “Pueblo Supermarket”) and it’s just steps away from the beautiful Caribbean Cinemas Fine Arts/Miramar Movie Theater, and a few blocks far from the San Juan Conservatory of Music too.
The owner is a hard working woman 🏆 who does her very best. She’s not into chitchat, even with people like me who’ve been coming here for years. 🤷🏽♀️ She’s always scurrying around. Very focused on multitasking with efficiency. I always find the service to be pretty good 💯. I’ve never dealt with any shenanigans here such as being overcharged or anything at all like that.
☔️ ☀️ 🎥 🍿 PRO TIP: If you’re a traveler (or a local) staying in either Condado or Old San Juan, it’s definitely worth a Taxi/Uber ride here to enjoy their food and perhaps a movie (in English or Spanish with English subtitles) It’s something fun to do with a family or solo. Osaka and the movie theater are within a block of each other! Osaka offers take out as well, call in advance to save time.
🚨 It’s very difficult to find street parking here, so park in the multilevel parking lot next door to Pueblo Supermarket, it’s safe and open 24/7. ¡Buen Provecho!! ¡Enjoy your meal!

Read moreThe food was quite good. The testeraunt faces the road in a step down off of the sidewalk. It was clean and well lit. The host spoke to us in Spanish but switched to english when we said we did not understand.
The menues were fine and the prices average to high. We got bento boxes which wete quite nice. I also got us each sushi which was fresh and well prepared.
The only true issue came when we went to pay. The server told us there was a problem with our card. Confused, my husband went with her to the register and saw that the problem was that the machine had no paper. She swiped the card and the machine flashed approved followed by paper error. He checked his account and saw that she had made five transactions when the issue was there was no paper in the printer.
He asked for a charge back but they coukd not figure that out. In the end they gave it to him in cash. He was very annoyed. I was amused. However, pay cash if you can. If we had a tighter budget this could have...

Update: I realized what happened once I got my receipt. The time on the receipt was marked 9:34; I called my order in at 9:00pm on the dot. Rather than admit their mistake and offer a sake or appetizer, they were happy to let me wait in silence. Half the food was cold. I waited a full hour from when I called in my order, and they were surprised and haggled when I asked for a discount. Had they admitted their mistake I’d have happily waited. They told me it would be 30mins on my to go and when I got there they realized their mistake and threw my order in, and rather than expedite it, it was placed at the back...
