BEDBUGS! BEDBUGS! We checked into our room and immediately found evidence of bedbugs along the seams of both mattresses in the room. The stains were on all sides of the mattresses and on both queen sized mattresses. The hotel was immediately notified, and a clerk followed us to our room where he tried to explain the stains by saying that it was rust stains. We are both doctors, and I have a background in microbiology/entomology, so we were dismayed by the effort to tell us we were wrong instead of taking the matter seriously. We requested alternative lodging and the clerk did text his supervisor who told him that they had no alternative lodging available. We were told that the stains were not from bedbugs and that was their final decision. We were left trying to find a hotel at 11:45pm in downtown San Juan which was very stressful, and ended up costing over $400. We did take plenty of photo evidence which I will include. The full room shot is proof that we stayed there. The LAST photo I will include is from Purdue University entomology department as a reference photo. I'd include the citation but I don't want to risk this review getting taken down over a link. The photos begin with the shot of the room proving that we were in their hotel. We submitted well cited documentation from the CDC, Purdue University and State of Maine proving our case and are simply asking for a refund, although we hope they will address the problem so future clients aren't at risk. They are currently refusing a refund. Today they told us; "There are no bedbugs on the entire island of Puerto Rico." which is objectively false. I have sympathy because they're horrible to deal with, but turning a blind eye continues to infect travelers. The location was otherwise average in terms of cleanliness, and had a nice lobby. The elevator in the parking garage is very convenient, however you truly don't want to go down there unless you have a smaller car. If not for the bedbugs this would have been a solid...
Read moreMy wife and I landed in Puerto Rico at 1am I’m preparation for a cruise. Prices for hotels that weekend were through the roof, so we just planned on hanging out somewhere for a few hours until boarding the ship. Just two hours later we realized just how tired we were. I started calling hotels around San Juan and all but two of the dozen I called were booked. One of them was $299, but by the time I realized how booked up the city was, they filled that last room. I kept calling hotels and one of the big chains (who was full) recommended Dreams Miramar Hotel.
I was excited when they said they had one room left and it was only $150! I told him I’d be there as soon as my Uber arrived and brought me down to the Hotel. Once we got there I was really pleased with the professionalism of the attendant. He handled everything quickly. I expressed how grateful we were to him - he told us someone called right after I had and wanted to book the room, but he held it for us on my word!
These guys saved the day for us! The place was super clean and everything was brand new! The room we stayed in was very nice and modern: Mini fridge, wall mount TV, tile flooring, etc.
The only single complaint I had was that at the time of the stay our room didn’t have a deadbolt or latch-lock (like commonly found in hotels) on the inside the door. Perhaps this is because the hotel room was literally brand new, idk. Hopefully they’ll make this quick and easy addition to their rooms in the near future.
If you are going to San Juan, I would highly recommend this place! Don’t let the street...
Read moreMirimar Hotel is only good for a single night if you're taking a cruise or flight out the next day. It’s not a long-stay hotel by any means, and in hindsight, I would have looked elsewhere, mostly due to the awful noise from the street. My guess is that, at least in my room, there was no sound insulation whatsoever. I’ve stayed at plenty of hotels in cities where you couldn’t hear traffic noise, but this one was probably half the price of the others around it. That said, I was only staying for eight hours to catch a flight in the morning, so I didn’t expect much.||The amenities are about as bare-bones as you can get, though they are oddly inconsistent. My room had a coffee pot, mini-fridge, and microwave, yet there wasn’t a single packet of complimentary coffee or bottled water. The shower worked fine with good hot water, but oddly, the sink had a push-timer faucet that only provided cold water.||The AC couldn’t be controlled, which is crazy. My room was 62 degrees, and the blankets provided weren’t enough to keep warm at that temperature. The only option was to manually turn the AC on and off, which means you’ll be getting up throughout the night to switch it back on as the heat of Puerto Rico seeps into the room—again, likely due to the lack of insulation.||As for the rooms themselves, they were okay. It seems like they, and possibly the hotel, were redone within the last decade. Parking isn’t great, as many...
