My husband and I were visiting Puerto Rico for the first time last week and we wanted to experience the natural beauty Puerto Rico. We found Jerrys Adventures online and saw the perfect 5-star reviews and were instantly intrigued. We booked the "Hidden Waterfall Tour" for Tuesday and were excited about the adventure that lay ahead. On Monday afternoon, my husband sent a message to Jerrys Adventures to confirm that we would be meeting the following day. The clear communication was prompt and increased our confidence and excitement for the hike. On Tuesday morning, we received a call from Jesus our tour guide calling to apologize for being late to pick us up from the hotel. (Sidenote: At the time of the call, he was still a half an hour early from the agreed pick up time). When Jesus arrived, he was still very early and apologized once again for the traffic. My husband and I immediately appreciated his upbeat personality, kindness and sincerity. After we were picked up from the hotel, Jesus starts to explain difficulty level of the hike and reassures us that while it might not be super easy, it'll be absolutely amazing He then went into detail about the Taíno people. He explained the trials the Taínos had to endure and the importance of understanding their culture in order to better understand the island and its history. The drive from our hotel was about an hour long. Due to Jesus's wonderful storytelling abilities, we were entertained and educated the entire drive making it seem much shorter. The first stop we made was the lookout point and we saw some of the most breathtaking views I have ever seen. At the lookout point, Jesus showed us where we will be hiking and pointed out some of the other well-known hiking areas. When we parked at the entrance of the rainforest, he loaded his backpack with water bottles for us and pointed out specific flora and fauna before descending into the rainforest. The hike was so much fun!!! (Disclaimer: I fell in the streams a few times and got muddy but I enjoyed the experience so much and would definitely do it again!) We hiked an hour to get to the waterfall and to say that it was magnificent or beautiful would be doing it injustice. It felt otherworldly. Jesus compared it to the land of Pandora and he was absolutely right. It was simply BREATHTAKING. Also, Jesus was a real-life superhero. Right before we ascended to the waterfall, we encountered a mom who seemed very worried about someone at the top of the waterfall. It turned out, there were some tourists that decided to attempt the hike themselves and needed help getting back down. Jesus asked if we could hang tight as he helped the 3 hikers down from the falls and calmly spoke to them as he guided them down safely. All in all, it was an incredible experience and I could could go on and on about how wonderful it was. However, I think it's best if you experience it for yourself.
P.S. If you are someone who loves comic books or D.C and Marvel and Star Wars, you'll have plenty to talk about with Jesus as your tour guide.
Thanks again for the...
Read moreThe rainforests in Puerto Rico are an amazing treasure house of natural wonders and one of the best ways (probably The Best) is to book an adventure with Jerry. He knows what is there in PR to offer and he knows what you would want! We took the secret waterfall adventure and it is the best trip decision we took.
I booked the trip about 3 days before the actual date and booked directly through his website. Online payment was smooth and secure. I got an immediate email confirmation. Jerry himself emailed to confirm a day before. He is super prompt in communication and if he is not responding for couple of hours, that's probably because he is helping someone across a waterfall or encouraging some afraid soul to cross that little block of rocks above the creek.
We were staying at Isla Verde (near airport) and Jerry picked us up in his van. We had 3 more families along with us whom he picked up from different parts of old San Juan. There was a little kid among them and 2 teenagers as well. It was a lovely group.
Jerry loves talking about Puerto Rico, you need to ask him all sort of questions you have in your mind and he will answer you. He drove us to the the entry point of the trail he has created to reach the secret waterfall. We were greeted by a group of super friendly dogs who assisted us like guards all throughout the trip.
The hike was about 30-40 minutes of walking through narrow handcrafted pathways, making your way over (and below) fallen trees, via small creeks, over big rocks and then finally reaching the waterfall. There's a rope already attached to help you up on to the waterfall base and then you can climb up natural staircase to have a refreshing shower in the falls. It was pretty hot and sweaty and the shower was amazing! Click some photos, have fun, swim in the pool below the falls. And then walk back the same road. The hike isn't very difficult with a little help and Jerry's always there for you! He won't just let you down and that was the best part about it!
After the hike, Jerry took us to an authentic Puerto Rican restaurant. We had authentic dishes which Mr.Jerry explained to us beforehand so that we can enjoy it to the fullest. Over all a perfect day in the forests.
I am very sure all of us on the trip unanimously agree that this was one of the best guided adventure tours we have ever had. I highly recommend this if you are up for some adventure in PR. Jerry is a super guide and he knows the place and his customers very well. He has stupendous customer satisfaction skills and would leave no leaves unturned to make sure you have the best experience. He even helped me with my shoes when I was stuck clumsily on a rock wall while coming down from the waterfall, he is so cool - you can just depend on him blindfolded! "Tres hurras para" Jerry and...
Read moreAn AMAZING day in the rainforest with Manuel!
We did the Hidden Waterfall hike and overall it was a wonderful experience; very worth it, 10/10. Note that this hike may be challenging for some because you are walking over uneven terrain (rocks, fallen logs, smalls streams, etc., more notes on this below).
Manuel was a FABULOUS tour guide. He was extremely personable and friendly, engaging, knowledgeable, and made everyone feel included. He was so responsive to people's needs during the hike and made sure everyone felt comfortable, safe, and taken care of. He also made the trip there and back fun through activities like trivia. Overall top notch; Manuel made sure everyone had a great day. Thank you Manuel!
Hike difficulty - This hike is rated as a "moderate" difficulty on AllTrails. Sometimes we were walking on a dirt path, other times we were climbing over fallen logs, rocks, or crossing small streams via rocks in the water or through the water itself (see attached pictures). The hike didn't seem particularly strenuous from an elevation gain or length perspective, just be prepared that you will not be on a trail the whole time and will cover different types of un-even terrain. Because this runs alongside a stream/river it can be slippery, we highly recommend shoes with traction that you don't mind getting wet. Bring socks. Water shoes worked well because they drained quickly, just make sure yours are comfortable/broken in, and don't feel too slippery when wet. Not too much direct sunlight, fair amount of tree coverage. If you have an injury or don't feel comfortable with uneven terrain this is probably not be the hike for you. There were 2 checkpoints in the hike where some of our group stopped and relaxed in the water instead of continuing on. (Again Manuel was super helpful so if anyone needed help but wanted to continue forward, he would help them, it's up to you and your comfort level.)
Hike experience - All of the above said, this hike was so worth it! Very scenic, the falls at the end are stunning, and you also see small waterfalls and water features throughout. The other big bonus was this is very clearly a hike for locals; it was not crowded at all, the only other people we saw the whole day were the other Jerry's Adventures group on their way back and two locals doing the hike. So the ambiance was wonderful, it felt like we had the rainforest and falls to ourselves. Finally, lunch was fun and really good! A perfect way to end the day.
A fabulous day, highly recommend; if your group will be comfortable with the...
