Olimpo by Otium — Local services in San Juan

Last minute decision lead to a scramble for accommodations which lead to Olympo/Olympio Court; chose the single room. It was cozy (about 365cm2), very clean, with a big split-unit air conditioner. The building is solid concrete construction with tiled or fancy concrete? flooring; walk with your bedroom slippers. The full size bed was very comfortable with clean linen and pillows. The wi-fi worked. There is a refrigerator (about 84 liters) and a microwave. There is an ironing room on the second floor. The retro furnishing is surprisingly comfortable and functional. The lighting was a bit on the dim side in the room, perhaps a function of the island's electricity still below 100% capacity following Hurricane Maria. During the day, the drapes can be opened to let the light in through a large picture window next to another large window that has a latch to open (liked that feature). If you just need a place to sleep in a safe (relatively speaking) neighborhood, without many amenities, this place with its friendly, professional and responsive staff is a good choice. Also there is usually a taxi outside; several good restaurants and cafes, a movie theater, and a supermarket within steps of the hotel. Overall the location is good but entire San Juan is not huge. The room is not as per the pictures, it is smaller. Cleanliness is an issue - used condoms in were found in the drawers, cockroaches near the fridge and washroom, no vents in the washroom. We requested for cleaning of the room because of the used condoms which host did but on the last day. We booked the place from airbnb and had to edit the reservation due to last minute changes in plans - changed booking from 8 to 6 days which host was kind enough to accommodate. But they expect you to use one set of towels that they provided, in the rainy season for this long duration. We asked for a change of towels, they did not seem happy about it. Switch of towels was required as it was raining everyday and nothing was drying up. No dryer is present on-premises to use in such situation. Mats are not present in the room, towels had to be used as mats due to rain and sand from beach. Talking about the view, it is from terrace and not from room. Parking space is covered in potholes - not great for sedan cars. Agreed that it was booked via airbnb, but still reasonable accommodations could have been provided without feeling bad about it or update the place such that guests don’t ask for these basic...

We were recommended this place because we didn't want to spend a fortune for just a couple days. My brother and I stayed in a double bed room and it was clean and comfortable. Supermarket, restaurants and movie theater are all around the corner (walking distance). ||||We came to Puerto Rico for an update of our birth certificate even thou we can do it online but being that we been out of PR for 21 years it was time to come back and visit our birth place. Everything went as plan and really easy. The people are nice and welcoming and we got what we came for within minutes, in the process we also renewed our passport even thou wasn't planned and got it the next day. Luckily the department was not too far from the resort (approx. 10 minutes).
