San Juan Eats: Breakfast Sandwiches

We came here on a Saturday morning around 9:30, moderately busy but not busy busy and ordered the Tostadas Francesas (French Toast) and the Mallorca Jamón y Queso (Ham and Cheese Sandwich) and a cafe con leche. The food was pretty good overall, though the French Toast ended up being a little too sweet and the sandwich wasn't the most flavorful. The reason I have to give this place two stars though is the atrocious service. While the person who took our order was just fine, everyone else down the line dropped the ball. After 15 minutes our order came out and there were two issues- 1st it was only my French toast and 2nd the woman who came to our table to give us the food dropped everything off but then held the sugar packet container at us- we didn't know if we were supposed to grab some sugar packets or grab the entire thing and when my girlfriend went to grab the container- she pulled back on it firmly. If that sounds awkward then yup it was extremely awkward. The crazy thing is she didn't say a word she just left and we remained sitting there wondering what in the world had happened. Like I mentioned prior, only my order came out. So after waiting another 10 minutes I went up with my receipt to ask about my gf's sandwich. Waited several more minutes while everyone at the counter ignored me until eventually one of them made eye contact and came over. I explained the issue and almost sounding annoyed at having to do her job, she went to the back to check. I gathered from the conversation in the back that someone forgot about her sandwich. That's my speculation as she never came back to explain the issue. A while 30 minutes after we originally put our order in she finally came back with the sandwich and dropped it on our table with no explanation for why it took so long or what the issue was. This was a truly disappointing experience as we came here on a recommendation. Apologies for writing a dissertation here but this experience deserved the word count in order to capture how genuinely bad our time was here. Please do yourself a favor and try out any of the other breakfast places here in Condado as both the food and service are miles ahead of this place. Semilla AND Café Márquesa are two much much better options. And if you do choose to come here I hope your experience is better than ours.

I decided to try Sobao for breakfast while I stayed in the area for a couple days. We tried a few of the sandwiches and highly recommend the Cuban, MediaNoche and Pepito. Everything was fresh and delicious. The coffee was great you could even drink it without sugar. I’m a native puerto rican and lived here for my first 24 years and never been here before, I took my fiancé for the first time to visit PR and he was hooked on the food so we came here every day for breakfast 🤣 i always been very picky with how the farina is made in different panaderias but they make it so good here. Portions are good and all packed with flavor especially the sandwiches. The atmosphere is welcoming but it can get so packed so dining inside can be uncomfortable because people are literally all over the place. The waiting time can be a little long but it is worth it as this place can get crowded. 5 stars to the workers, they are very kind and welcoming. Will come back here again and definitely recommend!

Wow these sandwiches are cheap AF, and in a good way cause their super tasty and not stingy on the meat. It's nestled within the AC Marriott hotel on the busy Ashford Ave. thoroughfare.

As soon as we walked in we were asked to walk over and have our dome temperature checked then directed over to the hand sanitizing station, their COVID protocols are some of the best I've seen and the door girl was super friendly about it.

Their menu display is pretty straightforward and the staff is bilingual so if ya don't habla don't be shy to talk English. I grew up eating these type of sandwiches as a child visiting PR every summer, it's pretty much an island specialty. I got the ham and cheese jammed packed in a flattened baguette type roll that has a sweet taste that they are know here for on the island.

Me and Wifey ordered our own sandwiches and the bill was like $7 and change!!! Perfect cheap eats and very filling, there also is other appetizing stuff on their menu to explore, definitely will be returning on this visit...
