I was a regular guest, approximately 3-4 times to the previous location of the omakase, referring everyone. It was excellent. Chef Daisy and Chef Vega were great as well. My girlfriend and I came here for their grand opening on Valentine’s Day which we were very excited about.
However, I was so so disappointed. The bill was approx $600, and we left starving and had to go to Supermaxx after to buy frozen pizza. The portions were far too small, each course was literally so tiny that when desert came I really thought it was a joke. it was almost like eating nothing, there was no fresh sushi, nigiri, etc.
I didn’t leave this review for a long time, and wasn’t planning to publicly and I had contacted Daisy privately to share feedback but I received a very generic templated message many weeks after. I finally decided to share this publicly since I’d personally want to know as a customer.
Overall I just feel so disappointed because I don’t feel that’s any way to treat one of your most loyal customers who wants the best for your restaurant and business. We were looking forward for weeks leading up to Valentine’s Day, and met with the biggest disappointment we’ve ever had in any restaurant in our lives - but worst of all, the lack of care and response from the owners from a loyal customer who has spent and referred thousands of dollars of business is what made...

I recently visited Godai by Sakana, located in the vibrant Santurce neighborhood of San Juan, Puerto Rico, and it was a memorable culinary experience. The restaurant has a cozy, inviting ambiance with a touch of modern Japanese charm that immediately sets the tone for a great meal.
The menu features a variety of authentic Japanese dishes with a focus on freshness and quality. The sushi was beautifully prepared, with a balance of flavors that showcased the chef’s skill. I was pleasantly surprised when the chef sent over complimentary sushi—a thoughtful and generous gesture that truly elevated the evening.
The highlight of the meal was their omakase selection, which offered a delicious variety of flavors and textures. Every bite felt carefully crafted, and the attention to detail was evident. I also loved the miso soup and the nigiri, which were simple yet exceptional.
The service was attentive and friendly without being overbearing. The staff made sure we felt welcome and were happy to answer any questions about the menu.

Read moreAfter spending a month in Japan, I can attest that Godai by Sakana is the best & most authentic Japanese dining experience in Puerto Rico, hands down!
The space whisks you away with its Japanese minimalist design, soft lighting, and relaxed yet chic atmosphere.
The menu features innovative options like uni udon, toro truffle hanabi (crispy rice), and an Asian mushroom clay pot that was my favorite bite of the night.
The arugala sesame salad we ordered was a perfectly balanced preparation, including a poached egg that binds it all together. Sushi rolls include unique options and fan favorites, all with fish flown in from Japan. The robata grill options are enough to make a dining experience out of those alone.
Lastly, the bathroom must be mentioned because it has the most incredible tile mosaic piece done by a local artist, that goes down the wall and extends to the floor. The toilet is Japan-approved with heated seat and built in bidet. If you've been to Japan before and have seen the expensive futuristic toilets, you'll know what I mean!
At this time, the restaurant is still in their soft open phase, but we had a sneak peek at the omakase space they are building and we can't wait to come back and experience that. What an awesome edition to San Juan's...
