Had a blast at Finney’s in SLO. In fact, we enjoyed it so much, we ate here on both of our two nights here. It isn’t that often that you have gluten-free options at a brew pub, let alone excellent food and service to go with those options, but that is the case here. We ate at the bar both days, and I thought both bartenders were outstanding! I’m upset I didn’t remember the bartenders’ names because they really help guide your experience. First day the guy was SO much fun, he acknowledged us quickly, didn’t mind our fussiness when we moved seats, I think he actually got a kick out of us when I decided to try the skee ball machine (BOY that brought me back to my childhood!) and the teasing interplay between my wife and me, he enjoyed that and he encouraged me to go for it! He was just a lot of fun and a great bartender.
LOTS of gluten-free options here. Loved the bacon deviled eggs (and they don’t chintz you on the portion size). Loved the carnitas nachos. But those WINGS! I’m still thinking about them. Just terrific. And we were a little shy about trying the mango habanero as the sauce but he talked us into it and we were SO appreciative of that recommendation because they were delicious! Yeah yeah yeah, we’re not young and not that spice tolerant, but he assured us it would be a great choice, and it was.
I don’t have the gluten allergy so I went with regular bun on the delicious cheeseburger and great crispy tasty fries. I LOVE when a restaurant offers a bison burger, and that’s what my wife had and she thought it was great.
Second night the bartender was also excellent, the service was great, and we enjoyed the rerun of the wings and went nachos this time. Not a bad dish in the whole lot. On top of that, I loved the classic rock and roll photos and the classic rock music they played here.
Loved Finney’s and will definitely return either when in SLO again or any of...

Read moreDoing a road trip with the hubby and decided to spend the night in SLO. We decided to give this place a try. We sat at the bar and our bartender Josh was nice enough. He makes a mean expresso Martini. We decided to order shareable plates so we ordered the deviled eggs, the grilled cheese and tomato soup, loaded tator tots, bone in wings (sauce on the side) and mini lobster rolls. The food was subpar to say the least. While the concepts are great, the execution was terrible. We asked Josh to make sure our food wasn’t waiting to be brought all at the same time and he assured us they would bring the plates out as they came up. Not true! Half of our order was cold and had been sitting. The deviled eggs were piped with yolk that wasn’t seasoned. The tator tots (home made) weren’t fried properly and the toppings were all stick together. The grilled cheese was cold the soup was warm and tasted like marinara rather than soup as it was very thick. The mini lobster rolls had so much celery in it thats all we could taste. And the wings although fried to perfection seemed to have been brined and the meat was very salty. So, for me this was a huge miss and I left underwhelmed and...
