We were across Court St from SLO Sweets having Sunday dinner at the Thai restaurant and I saw the sweet shop. It looked so bright and cheery and we could see they had a big TV with slightly strange cut from "Willy Wonka" playing continuously.
We decided to go over and have a look after dinner and it was a real treat. Smelled of sugar and vanilla and the music was a very surreal SLOSweet radio station that sounded like old Dr. Demento shows and 50's music, this was on top of the soundtrack from that Willy Wonka movie in the background.
It is a surreal place, full of every candy you can imagine. I found a few candy bars that I had not seen since I was a kid and had to buy them. Got a Zig-Zag, and a Big-Hunk. I took a few of photos of the colorful items and plan to go back with by good camera for a day of shooting sweets and see if I can find some other goodies. What a fun store, good for kids and Gr'ups. Find your favorite candy from your childhood. We were not interested in Gelato that night, but they did seem to have a nice selection. Will try some...
Read moreI'm from the East Coast, here is my personal opinion. Walking in initially was greeted. They had the Willy Wonka movie playing. I took notice in the price for what looked like a Tootsie roll (the bigger ones) but it was just a cream color package instead. $5.99 for one! I said is this a mistake and is this for the whole box? Absolutely not! Each one was marked 5.99. I was absolutely baffled. I kind of chuckled and said these are 25 cent in Georgia. Even the gentleman working there was shocked. Another thing I observed, the little packs of candy cigarettes I used to get when I was a kid. I paid .79 cent in Georgia the week before for my child. They were $7.99 a box there! I simply placed it down. Said you have a cute store and have a good night. Not everything in California is that expensive but, California needs to drop them prices a little. Gas included 😂 we're almost $3 a gallon here, while it's...
Read moreSlo sweets. Prices ARE WAYYY to exaggerating. Really not worth going in there my opinion. 40$ for a pound of m&ms or jelly beans, what is this a gucci store lol. The employees all looked very miserable. Oh god. Just to think about how long they have to stay in the store with nothing to do. Although what i do really recommend is going in just for the free gelato sampling but even then the gelato tastes like a mold refrigerator 🤣. The chocolates & candy look like they’ve been in store for weeks. They don’t have the good candies everyone looks for. It Doesn’t look like many people come often to visit. Everytime I go it was always the same things. I GENUINELY recommend those who are reading the reviews for any big purpose reasonings please consider this comment as one! I was so disappointed. With those prices might as well take ur kids to go to disneyland, or even 5 below has better things with cheaper...
