A good friend and I visited Rumbi Island Grill at 10365 South State Street in Sandy today — emphasis on this location, because I’ve had good experiences elsewhere. Sadly, this visit was like getting excited for a tropical vacation only to end up in a damp motel next to a construction site.
First off, the food. Bland. Lukewarm. It had all the excitement of boiled cardboard and tasted like it had been sitting in the back, quietly aging, waiting for someone to finally notice it. Fresh? Not even close. If “island fresh” is supposed to mean “sat around for a while,” then mission accomplished.
The portions were tiny — so small I actually wondered if I’d accidentally ordered off a kids’ menu. I left the place not satisfied, but still hungry. That’s not exactly the ending you hope for when paying full price for a meal.
And let’s talk about the tipping screen. Why is there a tip prompt at the register for a pre-paid, order-at-the-counter experience? Did someone refill my drink? Clear my table? Serenade me with a ukulele? Nope. So why am I being nudged to tip? If it’s because Rumbi told their employees they’ll get tips, maybe Rumbi should also tell them to provide service worth tipping for. Until then, no thanks.
Bottom line: This location just didn’t deliver. Between the uninspired food, the meager portions, and the awkward tip prompt, I doubt I’ll be returning to the Sandy Rumbi anytime soon. If you’re craving Rumbi, I suggest heading to a different location — one that actually remembers how to bring the “island” part of the...
Read moreI am extremely disappointed in the portion size I got for my Blackened Salmon and rice, at 16.99 I expected a White Bowl with a generous portion of rice and Salmon and veggies that I got all the time at the Layton Utah location. On that note the customer service was great, but shrouded in black via the portion sizes my family recieved for the amount of money I spent on Dinner. It was obvious that they were scrimping to off set the wages that they have to pay there employees because of Bought in Bidens ridiculous inflation costs. I've included pictures from inside the Resturant to show the false advertisement being presented. In Layton when dining in a White Bowl was offered. And I got a small silver carry out dish with sublingual amounts of food. Highly disappointed. To make my point clear look at Frank V's review from two years ago his photo shows a picture of how a regular size bowl should look. Read all the one and two star reviews below pertaining to reviews on food and portion size. They are still true. You think management would have made adjustments pertaining to the reviews they recieved. Lesson learned for me.

Read moreI ordered a teriyaki bowl with EASY RICE and EXTRA VEGGIES along with shrimp tempura and house salad. I repeated my order back to the cashier twice to clarify. Needless to say when I arrived back to my hotel to shower then eat to my dismay 😔 there was no 🍚 inside my bowl and my 🍤 was under cooked! 😭 Lord knows I didn't want to put my clothes back on to drive back down there, but I was highly dissatisfied with the meal in general. When I arrived I couldn't help but voice my disappointment to the first person at the counter who basically looked liked a 🦌 in headlights in a medium tone of voice. Immediately this woman interrupts me stating, "CAN I HELP U BC THESE EMPLOYEES ARE NEW SO U DONT HAVE TO RAISE UR VOICE AT THEM! I WILL KINDLY REMAKE UR ORDER OR ISSUE A REFUND. WHICH WOULD U PREFER!?" I took a breath and said, "I'm hungry!" And this isn't the first time I've had an issue with my order. I just didn't return the first time around." She kept mouthing off trying to impress her newbies as the head...in charge. In a nutshell this particular location is incompetent to say the least, and I will not return to endure anymore of poor...
