Let me start by saying Il Vicino's location in Albuquerque on Central Avenue has always been consistently good from the service to the food. Not so in Santa Fe. Il Vicino recently teamed up with Paxton's, the new taproom in town (not that we need another one). You can order pizza from your table via a QR code and Il Vicino will deliver it. There are no "food servers". They offer two sizes, small and large. Beer is purchased directly from the bar at Paxton's.
I stopped in the other night and ordered a beer and a small Margherita pizza. My friend ordered a Rustica. About 40 minutes later and an almost empty glass of beer the two pizzas arrive. I open up mine to discover it's a regular cheese pizza. Simple error I thought. Luckily, there was a side salad that was forgotten so the delivery person had to come back. Otherwise I would have had to walk my pizza through the parking lot and into Il Vicino which is adjacent to Paxton's.
I showed them the mistake and was told this was their Margherita pizza. This is how they make them. I mentioned the fact there was no tomatoes, basil or any other ingredients to aptly call it that. After much deliberation, I was told they were out of those key ingredients and didn't know when they'd even have any basil. I wasn't in the mood for a regular cheese pizza and asked if I could get a refund. I was told Paxton's would have to take care of it as the delivery person walked out the door.
I spoke to the crew at Paxton's and told them what had happened and according to Il Vicino, I should expect a refund. It wasn't Paxton's fault of course but they took it upon themselves to go see someone at Il Vicino about it. A few moments later, the supervisor at Paxton's comes back with a refund and an apology. He had also mentioned they had just started collaborating with Il Vicino and my snafu was already the second one of the day.
This system of no servers and ordering online via a third party is bound to cause more problems than are solvable. Combine this with poor customer service and you have a bland cheese...
Read moreAlways tasty food but Santa Fe location is complete tourist rip off even by Santa Fe standards. Let me just premise this by saying I used to frequent the Albuquerque locations 20 years ago when I first moved to New Mexico and last year when I moved back there. I now live in Santa Fe and know that eating downtown is a tourist trap, however management/ownership is showing an appalling amount of gall regarding their stinginess and greed. For a nearly 10 dollar salad I received a small handful of arugula. It was the amount you'd expect to find as a side accompaniment for FREE. For real. I'm a thin person and it wasn't enough even as an appetizer. I had to wait an excessively long amount of time for a small pizza that barely fills a medium size plate and it was moderately busy not crazy busy. I've worked in restaurants and bars of all calibers for many years throughout the country so I know this business. My tiny pizza had 2 yes 2 sun dried tomatoes when this was supposed to be an advertised topping. Basil was generous though in their defense. They were also well staffed on the floor and everyone was very nice and seemed well trained and accomadating so I want to be fair to this business. This last nail in the coffin on this dining experience however was the goat cheese. Not sure how they can possibly think this is ok this but in my 45 years I've never seen liquefied goat cheese squeezed onto a pizza. I get that goat cheese is expensive and sticky but this is completely unacceptable. Every other pizzeria on earth serves this on pizzas in little pieces as we all know. They manage to get it done. Why can't this place? Il Vicino serves a lot of tasty food and seems to put a lot into their business so I can't understand why they would risk their reputation with...
Read moreSanta Fe is one of those places famous for its great restaurants and coffee shops. There are usually so many good places to go to, that one finds it hard to choose one from the extensive list of gourmet locals to go to, and it almost feels like choosing one is sacrificing 20 other great options... Knowing this before hand, I can say that “Il Vicino” is for sure one of those stops you don’t want to miss on your trip to Santa Fe if you are a fan of wood oven pizza. This place does not only offer delicious food options, but it also has a great environment to it. During COVID19 hardest restrictions days, they made accommodations on their beautiful outdoor space, and offered all the security measures for their customers. The staff is extremely attentive and nice, their waiting time is excellent, for they have quick service, and the menu is awesome as well, offering fresh and great quality ingredients, and for the pizza, having that wood-smoked- oven flavor to it that happens to be irresistible. They also have THEIR OWN Brewing company, which allows them to serve their own beer brand “Canteen”, an internationally awarded beer that is definitely worth trying!! I particularly loved their Amber Ale option. I fully recommend this place, it is ideal for all types of customers, whether you are on a romantic trip, or as a family visit, as long as you love amazing pizza and salads, this...
