I never leave 1 star! The waiter and guacamole server were nice. Santa Fe, Easter. Restaurants were closed after 5 p.m. or no dogs were allowed. Reviews were good here and it said dogs were allowed on patio. When you walk in, there is a restaurant, with an inside what looks like patio area, Edison lights, looked pretty. I walked straight to the first podium I saw in front of the bar, and the lady immediately pointed where my husband and I and our two small dogs could sit at a high top bar table. I asked if we could sit at the place to the right side of us (inside patio) and she said no, okay. A waiter arrived with menus, I looked at the menu and said this isn't the menu that's online. He said, this is the bar menu. I said how do we receive the other restaurant menu. He said you have to sit over there, it is the same location, but two different menus, and kitchens. I said the hostess said we could not sit there, he apologized and said he didn't know why she would tell us that. We had been seated 10 minutes or longer already, not realizing we could not order from the online/restaurant menu. I went to the other podium he pointed to and put our name in. They said it would be a 10 minute wait. We waited for a table at the one place that fulfilled, Mexican food, dogs, and open on Easter, then after waiting 20 minutes (they said 10 minute wait, we were sitting within view of the podium, I showed them where we were waiting, AND they had my phone number) for a table at the restaurant and they gave our table away. We were already seated in the wrong section. No directions, no clarity, I am not sure why the hostess said we could not sit at the restaurant. We waited for service, we were never offered water refills. Table side guacamole which was good, but $20 for two avocados, I guess the price to eat out, so that's understandable. Also, the only food worth eating. The enchiladas are $24 for two enchiladas a small side of black beans, and a small pile of lettuce with a few diced tomatoes. After eating the guac, my husband and I decided to split our meal, thinking it would be large portion. The enchiladas were very small, beans were all dente, not good. The enchiladas were naked, Christmas chilis, red, and green chilis we're supposed to accompany it. No sour cream or pork sauce on the side as stated. We ordered one chicken, one vegetarian. He said cheese and onion, I asked for cheese and mushrooms (if possible) if not, cheese and onions were okay. We received two dry corn tortillas, no sauce, they were luke warm, with no cheese, squishy water logged, small diced mushrooms, a miniscule portion, both fillings of mushrooms combined, didn't fill one tortilla. One sauce on the side, red. Not at all what we ordered or what the waiter recommended. I've never heard of dry enchiladas, isn't that the point of this entree is they are supposed to be saturated and soaked in sauce. The waiter came back to check on us, we said we were missing a chicken enchilada and there was no cheese, no sauce on them, this isn't what we requested. I ate the filling from both enchiladas in one tortilla, starving (or I wouldn't have eaten it), since we had already waited more than forty minutes with our table mishap. The beans were hard and gross, we waited some more, since my husband hadn't received his food. The waiter finally served a piping hot chicken stuffed enchilada with cheese and green chili to my husband, which he said was not very good, but he was hungry too. Start to finish this experience was pretty terrible and I would not recommend this place to anyone. There is a lot lost in translation and no one seems to know how to do there job, or even what their job is. To be noted my husband woke up at 2 am with food poisoning. I wouldn't blame them, but unfortunately this was the only meal we...
Read moreComically poor service at this very expensive fine dining establishment.
To start, we arrived just after 5 pm, we did not have a reservation but seeing that the restaurant was fairly empty we asked if a table was available for our party of 3. We were told nothing was available but the bar/lounge area would be a good alternative. We asked if they served the same menu and were told, "yes.. mostly". No problem, we didn't have a reservation so we went to the lounge.
We were sat down immediately and a server came up and said "3 waters" No hello, no my name is... Just "3 waters". We said yes and started looking at the bar menu. The menu was very limited and was basically just bar food, nothing like the menu for the restaurant. Our server comes to the table and we order 3, $18 margaritas. We ask if there is an additional food menu and are rudely told this is the menu, he looked confused by this question for some reason.
Our water arrives. The server puts all 3 on the table spilling one that was overfilled. There is now a fairly large puddle of water on the table. He departs without doing thing about it. ( Note: its extremely dark in the lounge area and its likely he didn't see, and he wasn't really paying any attention.)
Ours server comes back and delivers our drinks, before we can say anything he is gone. We are still at the table with a puddle of water, there are no napkins of any type on the table.
I notice several servers standing just a couple feet from our table talking. I make eye contact and ask if we could have some napkins. She says yes looks around and then goes to the bar. A few minutes later (how long should it take to find napkins at a restaurant/bar?) She comes back to our table and drops off 2 bar napkins (little paper napkins). 2 tiny napkins to a table of 3.
Our primary server never came back to check on us. At this point we drink out $18 margaritas, that were mediocre at best. Flag our server down and ask for the check. Pay our bill and leave.
The only thing I can say is the lobby of the hotel is beautiful. Other than that this place needs some improvement. Horrible experience. FYI went to another place not far away and had an amazing...
Read moreThis place is always a ten out of ten. This is why we decided to choose la Fonda for our twenty-fifth wedding anniversary, la plazuela at La Fonda is a wonderful restaurant we often visit here on special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, and family celebrations. Breakfast early on Sunday mornings is always fantastic before the church rush, and brunch is also fantastic, we have yet to have dinner there, but a lot of people we've spoken to say that it's impeccable, the hotel itself holds so much history and the artwork and architecture inside is wonderful, it's fun just to stroll the hallways of the lobby area where it's very welcoming plenty of seating.
