Restaurant Martin was a little less than just okay. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone I know, especially for a special occasion. During my experience there wasn't any one big NO but a bunch of little ones. Neither of the hostesses/maître d' were there to greet us when we arrived. Our server didn't come to take our drink order for over 15 minutes and another 15 or so before drinks come to the table and our food order was taken. After our order was taken we saw our server twice. I poured our water and wine while dining here. The server station was visible and dirty, empty bottles dirty plates etc. The bathrooms were dirty as well with extra stuff stacked up in them, stinky cheap soap, dirty build up around the sink, and the mirror was dirty. I ordered the wagyu cheeks and tenderloin both of which were actually quite tasty and cooked properly. My partner ordered the Cesar salad (I know why?) and not much to our surprise it was absolutely nothing special. He also ordered the duck. The duck was cooked well but the overall dish fell flat in the textures and flavors and was overall too sweet. Now I totally understand that these aren't huge issues but when you go out and pay $250 for a date dinner (without dessert) at a James Beard nominated restaurant slow service, messy/dirty facilities, and ehh food led to a place I wouldn't recommend visiting. Especially when Santa Fe has so many restaurants that are worth going to and raise the bar in...
Read moreWe dined at Restaurant Martin (RM) this week during our annual trip to Santa Fe, NM. Our first dinner this trip, and what a treat. All the staff are amazing… friendly, attentive, but not intrusive. Seleste was our waitress, and she did a GREAT job! Thank you Seleste! The restaurant is cool and cozy, with dining areas and tables spaced so each table has a bit of privacy. They place a little business card on your table with the server’s name and a little bio… very nice.
The food and drinks were exquisite! We started with a couple of cocktails, Lavender Haze and Tequila Twilight… both were delicious! The bread served is $3/person, but well worth it. Awesome thyme butter on the side, and there is a hot rock in the bread bowl to keep the bread warm!
For the appetizer, we shared the asparagus and prosciutto salad… sublimely good! Our entrees were the chef seafood special, barramundi, and the prime beef tenderloin. Per our usual practice, we each ate 1/2 of our entree and we swapped plates. The fish was expertly prepared and the steak perfectly grilled. Both dishes were on point!
We shared the soft chocolate-espresso pave for dessert, heaven on a plate! A bottle of Veuve Clicquot rounded out the dinner, dunked in an ice bath, and was as good as ever. The restaurant’s wine list is extensive, something for everyone, both Old World and New. Highly recommend Restaurant Martin, 5 Stars...
Read moreFrom start to finish a fantastic way to celebrate my birthday. As a surprise my husband booked this restaurant, neither of us having visited this place before. From my funny initial interaction to inquire if there was dress code, to our final dish, this restaurant went above and beyond to provide an exuberant experience. It was a chilly day requiring the use of coats, and immediately upon arrival they offered a place for them to be deposited while we were seated. The restaurant was cozy, with the perfect mood lighting for a romantic evening. Our waiter was professional, experienced, and a great wealth of knowledge regarding the dishes and pairings. To start our appetizer we chose for the vegetarian tasting plate, the gouda polenta being perfectly crispy, the bisque exquisitely flavorful, my favorite however was the goat cheese salad and polenta. For entrees, I chose the the beef tenderloin, my partner opting for the lamb rack. To say I was impressed was an understatement. The beef was tender, buttery, and cooked to perfection, the accompanying sauce, potato tartine, mushroom and tomato duxelle created a symphony in my mouth. The lamb was cooked to the perfect temperature, avoidant of gaminess and risotto to die for. The plate finished with a fantastic surprise of lava cake and the perfect cinnamon gelato. If you have been wanting to try this restaurant but been afraid, please go, it is well...
