RISK OF ALLERGIC REACTION
The tea here is good, but unfortunately I have to give this a one star review. I’ve had their tea multiple times over the years and this was the first boba I ever tried back in 2016. I’ve never been allergic to anything in my life but twenty minutes after I started drinking this tea my lips started to go numb. Then my tongue, then my mouth, then my entire face and throat. Because I’ve never been allergic to something before I had no idea what was going on but I had to quit drinking the tea because I couldn’t feel myself swallow. I called the on call nurse who said I must be allergic. So when I was back at this location I told them what had happened just so they could be aware that allergies can be caused. They were very kind and gave me a free drink. Within the month I had moved to LA and over the years and since moving back to Phoenix I’ve tried lots of different Boba places both here and in LA never once getting an allergic reaction, assuming it was just from coming into contact with Boba; even though I don’t have an allergy to tapioca. I’ve even had tea from this same location with no reaction. But recently I had tea with jellies, like normal, in the bottom and had the same exact reaction happen once more, only I didn’t come in contact with any Boba. Now I honestly can’t say whether this was due to cross contamination or to me being allergic to something else this location uses that came into contact with my drinks each time, but I want people to be aware that this can happen. Be careful about choosing this location. And for any employees reading this, I’d suggest trying to find a solution since I’ve had tea from boba shops many times over the last nine years with no such reaction as I have with this exact location. Whatever you’re doing is causing a health risk and I think you should be aware of it. I’ve learned my lesson and won’t have your tea again, but I find it odd that out of all the times I’ve had tea from boba shops, this has only ever happened at your location. Just be wary of that. Thank you. I don’t want anything to happen to anyone. I would suggest Bubblebee instead. Or even around here Shakes & Cones or...
Read moreBoba: Mushy, slimy, half disintegrating and generally gross. Boba should be semi-sweet, pleasantly soft and chewy; kind of an al dente. The horrid soggy texture is most likely due to the shop not placing the boba in honey or sugar water after cooking. Texture is key! Skipping this step is also making the Boba bland and tasteless. This is sad because Boba should be the star of any drink it is in. I've purchased and thrown away two different boba drinks (including the from here because of this issue. I also wonder how many people think they don't like Boba because they haven't experienced it properly done! :-(
Smoothies: They are either not blended with enough ice to keep their consistency from being watery OR the process of pouring HOT Boba (and the tasteless hit boba cooking water, ugh...) into the smoothie is destroying the icey blended texture. Thus, it is more runny liquid than icey+creamy smoothie. I mean, I LOVE Taro and this place made TWO different Taro Smoothies that I couldn't finish half of and threw away! sighs
Teas: Cloyingly sweet. I'd recommend getting a Teavana tea from the Starbucks 20 feet away.
Bottoms: While I personally am not a fan of them, the Nunus are fine. The Poppers are just thinly shelled fruity sugar water that mixes with your drink. Likely more popular with youth.
Customer Service: The only reason for the 2 stars. Always prompt and friendly I've never had an issue with customer service at this location.
Overall: I am a Boba\Milk Tea\Bubble Tea enthusiast. I am also at this mall 5 days a week for the next 2 months due to my daughter being in a theatre production (go check out Desert Stages Theatre...they are amazing!) and would have loved to be a VERY regular patron of this establishment. But Management needs to update the process of cooking and storing Boba at a minimum before I will purchase a...
Read moreI had an absolutely terrible experience with this company. Every single time my boyfriend and I come into this place at the mall, the guy at the cash register looks at us and goes "we ran out of boba". He refuses to sell us boba and claims that they didn't make enough for us. It would be understandable if this had happened once, but this has happened 3 times now and it is always with us. I asked him why he always picks on us specifically, and he said "if you have a problem with it, then talk to a manager. Write a bad review on google if you want. It's not my fault. Blame the company." That is so disrespectful. I did end up calling the company to talk to the manager or someone in charge and express my concerns, but they didn't answer the phone. I left a message where I started laughing really hard on the phone in the first part, because the situation is simply absurd. I have never had a server / waiter tell me "We have no product for you, go write a bad review. I don't care." anywhere and I didn't expect it from them. It is just really hard for me to take the company seriously when their own employees are saying "blame the company not me. I don't care if you complain". I have never had such bad service in Scottsdale. Unfortunately, I can not recall the young man's name, but he had longer hair tied up into a bun. This is very disappointing and we just want to be able to get boba like...
