New Garden Asian Cuisine
300 Broadway St. Seaside, OR 97138
(Inside the Carousel Mall)
On a cold and wet January Sunday evening in Seaside Oregon, one really can't expect to find much on offer
in the way of interesting food. But alas! there was such to be found (albeit in a kind of creepy 'It' centric darkened and closed for the day clown mall....) New Garden Asian Cuisine is a tenant of the Carousel Mall which after hours is accessed by what I assume is the back entrance to the mall on Broadway adjacent to a massive public parking lot.
New Asian has received a myriad of great reviews and our visit proved to be supportive of them. New Asian has quite an extensive menu but the helpful and friendly staff is more than happy to walk you through any and all concerns about what is what. Dishes are made to order and vibrant in appearance and taste not to mention ample portions and assembled well for today's Covid/Carry-out requirements. We started with an appetizer of the steamed pot stickers which were tender, tasty and way too easy to snarf down (it's a texture thing). We also ordered the House Fried Rice which was a generous mound of well seasoned and prepared fried rice with the traditional veggies along with adequate portions of chicken breast, pork and shrimp. In addition we also got the Orange Chicken (weekend special) which was excellent due to one could select the level of heat (mild to misery) in addition to the chicken being fried/coated in a light crispy batter not an industrial blob of goo. The orange sauce (rich in orange flavor) in which the chunks of chicken where generously enrobed also proved to be a pleasant surprise, avoiding the usual cornstarch laden caulking compound which can be the norm when served in many other Asian themed eateries. This combination plate also included a choice of rice (excellent white rice!) two pot stickers and egg roll. Again the portions were ample and fresh, the taste excellent without flavor enhancers, and minimal grease or excess oil which can many times be the bain of Asian...
Read moreNew Garden Asian Cuisine is located on Broadway just a short walk from the Lewis and Clark turnaround and Promenade on beautiful Seaside Beach at Seaside, Oregon. Seaside is a very active tourist town, And typically I've come to expect very high prices and not always the best food in tourist towns. New Garden is the exception that proves the rule. The food is amazingly well priced*, fresh, hot and delicious, handmade on the spot for every order. The staff was instantly attentive when we entered and their smiles and happy personalities made it great. She brought our soup quickly and the entrées hot and fresh immediately after. They checked on us several times during the meal which was very refreshing. The restaurant is located in the Carousel Mall right in the heart of the approach to Seaside Beach, yet it feels very cozy and intimate. A very relaxing place to eat I only regret that I didn't find out about it until the last day we were here. I recommend you find it quickly when you come to Seaside because you will want to enjoy it more than once. ☺️ We've seen single entree prices upwards of $48 in other food stops in the PNW. Our total bill for TWO entrees, fried rice, pot stickers, egg flower soup and iced tea was only $34 and change....
Read moreWe just had a delicious meal. This place, as many reviews have stated, is in the bank of an old little mall. You wouldn't know it was there from the main street.
We ordered the General Tsao Chicken, Sweet and Sour Chicken and Chicken Dry Noodle, and a side of green beans. The food was super tasty and they serve generous portions.
They are under staffed so there was a bit of wait for a table (7 min or so) and a longish wait for our food (20 minutes). There was only one server, one cook and one assistant. I had a Chinese beer which complimented the food well. We had a great experience until we went to leave.
As we were leaving, we saw a mouse run into the restaurant from the mall. It ran right under the beverage refrigerator. My children and I screamed as we saw it scurry along the wall. The server seemed unphased. I for one, won't be dining here again; even though the food was so good! I know that eating out is a gamble and you have no idea what's happening behind the scenes. But I've also worked in the food industry and know that there are many restaurants that are very clean and pest free. It's really hard to actually see rodents where you just...
