The 1 star is for the food. It’s delicious.
Loyalty, however, means nothing at this restaurant to the manager. When she’s NOT there, I get treated with way more respect and familiarity. I can only imagine she gets the training from the owners, since they issue punch cards “buy 10 get 1 free” for the value of half a bagel.
The fact that my lunch bagel, which I used to get every day they were open, went from $10.50 to $15.00 in a day was infuriating to me. On top of the credit card up charge, the signature bagel up charge, and the avocado up charge, I now just pay $4 extra for my sandwich. Which, mind you, comes with HALF an avocado, at most, and the lox are spared.
I understand the summer time need to get $$ as a restaurant. I even understand the cost of inflation and how it affects the entire menu. However, when it comes to serving your local customers, you should always try to make them happy. When I went on Sunday or Monday, I was able to get my bagel for $13.50. The “manager” or supervisor said, “oh, yea this is Ari right? You get this every day”. She graciously substituted the tomato, to which I am allergic, to their sparse avocado. Instead of charging me an extra $2 for avocado. I tipped them close to 50% for working with me, in expectation that I would continue to receive this kindness for my loyalty.
That was not the case today. I don’t go out of my way to write a review unless some serious injustice was done. Not only was I refused the kindness, I was treated with disrespect by the manager, who didn’t care to lose my business. They’re thriving over up charging tourists right now, and that shows in their attitude. I tried my best to have a conversation with the woman about common courtesy in the service industry in a local community like ours, and she didn’t even pretend to care or listen. Continually interrupting me saying they didn’t raise the prices enough! If your distributor inflates THAT much on you (which is a huge inflation across their menu), you need to find someone new to work with. I hope the kind people that were courteous enough to me don’t get thrown under the bus for this incident. The issue is with the unseen management and how it comes across to their customers. Owners, get involved. Teach your leaders common courtesy and customer service. Stop screwing the locals. I know I’m not the only one upset with you, and it’s not just over this case of inflation.
I will not be returning, and I’ll be actively discouraging the rest of the local community from supporting your business. I hope this can be resolved, but you have to show some consideration and damage control on your part. If things don’t change, you’ll be written off in the winter time… I...
Read moreMy husband and I had seen Bagels by the Sea on previous trip to Seaside but alas it was closed. Today we got a chance to visit and will never go back.
The line was 10 customers long which was fine, but it moved slow. We ordered a latte, a diet soda and one plain toasted bagel with cream cheese.
I sat in a green armchair while my husband ordered. The person making drinks with the shaved right side of her head was screaming at the nice polite younger male cashier. Super unprofessional. He was moving slowly but he was doing his job,
Then it took 30 minutes for 4 or 5 parties to get their food and drinks. I finally said to my spouse let’s just get a refund and go.
The shaved head lady with black hair came up - leaving 9 drinks ready with tickets just waiting there - and said she would try to do a refund and we might get our money back in 5 business days. I asked very calmly and politely for a receipt so I’d be able to call my bank since we’re from out of town. She started grabbing her head and screaming at us that she was going to quit because she didn’t know how to reprint a receipt.
I calmly explained that it’s a Square terminal and you can just go back in the transaction list and print it. The male cashier even offered to do it.
She just kept screaming and threatening to quit. Finally a calm employee with light brown hair came up and asked her to leave and offered to give me my $12 in cash so we could leave. She handed us our cold drinks and our cash and we left.
My husband’s soda tasted like it had soap in it. We are not sure if this beverage would make him sick- maybe the shaved head lazy had pumped sanitizer into it in her flustered state?
So for our safety, we threw both drinks out and went to Starbucks. Received our drinks in 30 seconds and they tasted great.
I feel bad for the people working here, but also it’s manipulative to scream at a very calm customer merely asking quietly and politely for a way to confirm a refunded charge, especially after we all (probably 10 customers) waited half an hour for food and drinks that appeared ready but were just sitting there not being served.
The whole experience was disturbing and I felt the employee was trying to make it look like I was being unreasonable when she was flipping out at us for no reason. I cannot...
Read moreWhat can I say about my experience at Bagels by the Sea? Well for starters, I wasn't expecting my order, which consisted of two of the brunch bagels (think BLT style) to take 40+ minutes to be prepared. I placed my order inside at just a few minutes before 10 a.m. on a Sunday morning, and then sat in my car to wait. The two choices are wait outside or in your car. At 10:20 no bagels. At 10:30, no bagles. At 10:40 I see one of the employees running the order out to the man in front of me (there were two orders ahead of mine and one had just left). So I figured mine would be up next. I asked the employee about my order and she ran inside to check on it. I watched her examine all of the tickets, stare at the counter, go through the tickets again all before she asked for my name (which they write on the tickets). She then asked the line about my order and they said that they were just getting to it. I asked "what does that mean? What are we talking here, 10, 15 minutes?" She said yes and I told her that I would be back because I was about to be late from checking out of my hotel room. When I went back to get my food, which was about 10 minutes later, my food was all bagged up on the counter, there were 4 employees up front, not one of them acknowledged me and I waited for 5 minutes before I was helped. I took my food out to my car to eat it as I am absolutely starving at this point and my food was cold. So, what can I say about Bagels by the Sea? That I'm super disappointed with my experience and the food. I'm beyond irritated for having to wait 40+ minutes for two bagels. And the lack of customer service left plenty to be desired. Other than that, I'm sure it's a charming place. I only gave it one star because zero is...
