Been here a couple times and it's been a mixed bag.
The best thing I had here was the chai old fashioned, and it was legit good. (Thanks for actually mixing some of the flavor into the dough instead of just relying on the glaze!) But I also got the last one (arrive early!) and other items I've had don't shine as brightly.
Pomegranate old fashioned- tasted like generic "pink flavor" to me. Very sweet and vaguely tart w/ minimal discernable pomegranate flavor. OTOH, it was my wife's favorite. (But she tends to like generic pink / red flavor, so it might be fine for you if you value sweetness highly.)
Georgette- good, but not superlative. A better-than-average cinnamon sugar twist that didn't have the outer crispiness so the best ones.
Breakfast sandwich w/ bacon- a bit disappointing, especially for the ~$11.5 price. The tomato pesto they had was good, but there wasn't really enough of it and sandwich tasted dry overall. We added on some chipotle "Bitchin Sauce" ourselves at home which was a dramatic improvement. Also I would have liked to see some layered / folded scrambled eggs, instead of a McDonald's-style molded egg patty. Bacon and cheese were quite good. It was also a nice size.
Fritters- very doughy (like most fritters, to be fair). Didn't have the really stand-out fruit flavors / spices that the best fritters do.
Bombas- Lots of filling. Good foundation and fine, but I didn't love them either. I think I could love them if they had the right flavor for me. (Tried the bananas foster.)
So they definitely have some good items, but it's also not one of those "get whatever you want and it will be great places", at...
Read moreA little known secret about me is I’m obsessed with donuts. I really really enjoy them and I would eat them everyday if I could without consequence. Half and Half Doughnut Co has been on my list of donut shops here in Seattle to try. We happen to walk in right as they put a nice row of fresh glazed raspberry old fashions on the shelf, so I had to order one of those. I also ordered a black and white chocolate donut and a cream filled donut as seen in the pictures.
The women working the counter was extremely nice and provided great service. She was kind enough to warn me that the raspberry old fashion was just glazed and might be very messy. The box they use for the donuts was a perfect sized box for 3-4 and was decently durable.
Now for the taste test. The donuts were all good, the raspberry was sweet and the glaze was practically melting off because of how fresh. The black and white was a solid choice and a very classic taste. The cream filled I didn’t care much for but my wife loved it. The reason I rate 4/5 is because I have an ongoing debate about donuts here in Seattle….most of them taste the same. They are not ever really soft and are all neutral between firm/hard. I prefer softer donuts. I won’t drop other donut shop names as comparisons because I want you all to try all the shops yourself.
But hey!! They are really good donuts. If you have a craving I would recommend this shop to...
Read moreDid a Yelp search for local donut shops and found this place within a half mile of our hotel on first Hill. Nice leisurely stroll through the neighborhoods into Capitol Hill at 8:00 a.m.. Decided to get sous vide eggs to start and got the caramelized onion with bacon and cheese. I am serious when I say get yourself one! It was a great start to the morning. Of course we ordered several flavors of donuts to carry back to our hotel..... The pineapple fritter is such a unique taste and so crispy on the edges! Probably one of the best fritters I've ever tried. The passion fruit glazed old-fashioned gave you that sweet with a little bit of tart that helped to balance everything else out and was very tasty. We couldn't walk away without one of each of the mini Bimbas ....... And wow! I don't know how they make these donuts but they have a nice little crunch as you bite in and then sink your teeth into this dense pillow of doughy goodness. If you've had them you fully understand what I'm trying to describe. The cream fillings in each one are not overly sweet and balanced the bite perfectly. Oh and these guys know how to fill a donut! I turned each mini one into four bites and was not disappointed by the amount of cream each bite included. Definitely keeping this place on my list and encouraging my...
