Great food but overpriced for somewhat small portion size. The space is has a clean look and smells great - progressively bright lime green colored pillars pep up an otherwise rather stark industrial space. Lots of young liberal types around. If you're trying to date someone with the classic liberal mindset this is probably a good place to eat lunch everyday.
You can see the space where they make the food - everything appears clean and tidy. They're not super-fast, but certainly fast enough considering the number of people ahead of us.
I had the whole size tri-tip sandwich - no soup for me. It was 12.80$, after tax 14.03$. It should have been about 9$ tops. I wouldn't have complained if it was 16$, and 1/3 larger with about 1/3 more toppings - then I would have said pricey, but worth it.
I couldn't help but get the feeling that the overpricing and the portion size were not related. I think they consider themselves "socially responsible" and part of that means, they're not going to let you overeat.
The salt and pepper on the tables gently lets you know how controlling these "Socially Responsible" types can be. First, the salt and pepper are together in the same container, so if you prefer just pepper or just salt or something other than the ratio they've chosen for you, you're out of luck. Second, the salt & pepper grinder is adorned high grade plastic stickers (not very green btw): one tells you the salt is "solar evaporated, mineral rich sea salt from the most beautiful place on earth." (San Juan Island); the other tells you the pepper is organic - of course!!! The main label spells salt using geographic outline of San Juan Island as the "L". It's enough to make you feel like you're living in an episode of Portlandia, so maybe this is a tourist destination if you're in Seattle, and don't want to go all the way down to Portland? Who knows...
Food is good although overpriced with...
Read moreThe food is great - the chicken sandwiches are my favorites, and I love how they have gluten-free and dairy-free options.
The only problem with Homegrown is how they seem to have trouble getting my orders right. I've ordered takeout 3 times in the past 3 months and two of them were incorrect - once I ordered a steak bowl with no onions and received a veggie bowl full of onions and no steak. And when I ordered the chicken sandwich on gluten-free bread, I received a vegetarian sandwich on a baguette.
I know they're busy during lunch and I do my best to order in advance or go in a bit later to avoid the rush hour. But it's an assembly line with systems in place to minimize human error, so I would expect to receive my orders right at least the majority of the time.
Also, there are always multiple orders on the counter so it's not feasible for me to open the bag and unwrap the sandwich every single time to check if it's the right one, and it's aggravating to have to go back and wait for a new one, or eat something that I don't want/like or that could potentially make me sick.
I honestly hope Homegrown improves their service so customers can trust the product...
Read moreUpon entering, no one said hello or good morning... just nothing . Good thing I had my glasses on to see that you ordered from a kiosk. I put my order in and showed my husband how it works he wasn't as happy to try something new, the kiosk or a sandwich. Order didnt take too long we parked in the load and unload area Once we got our order I could smell it through the bag , Hubs wasn't sure said he didn't like that "type" of bread but literally after one bite he was in heaven he raved and raved about the bread being so soft , the egg so so perfect and said he would definitely pick this spot for a breakfast sandwich again. I had the bacon , turkey lettuce, and avocado, and it was scrumptious. I don't mind using the kiosk, but I can guarantee had my husband been by himself he would of walked out without that sandwich and it would of been because he was not acknowledge upon entering as a guest and was not given instructions on how to use the kiosk. Now that he knows he may return ..I'm not sure how many times without hearing a hello or good morning or some kind of thanks for deciding to spend his $$ at the...
